What is Developmental
Bilingual Education
Developmental Bilingual Education,
also called late-exit, is a program
that helps English Language
Learners learn their primary
language and then transfer into the
English language. This program
usually begins in kindergarten and
goes into high school.
Why have Developmental
Bilingual Education?
Bilingual education is essential in a
ELLs life. It is important for them to
have master the skills in their native
language to be able to better learn in
their second language.
Developmental Bilingual Education
provides the opportunity to
accomplish success in both
languages.
One language sets you in a
corridor for life. Two
languages open every door
along the way.

Students master their first
language.
Students learn English.
It is offered up to high school.
The program encourages and
allows families to fully become
involved in students learning.
Increases skills in listening,
speaking, reading, and writing
(ELPS-English Language
Proficiency Standards).
Our goal:
Our main goal is for students to fully
become biliterate. This program will
be used every day in my classroom
in order to be more effective.
