FITT Principle

Frequency, Intensity, Time and Type


Frequency - How often you workout
Intensity - How hard you workout
Time - How long you workout
Type - What kind of exercise you do

Cardio-Respiratory
The ability of your cardiovascular (heart) and respiratory (lungs) to supply oxygen
to the skeletal muscles during sustained physical activity

Muscular Strength
The ability to exert force on physical objects using muscles

Muscular Endurance
The ability to perform work using your muscles over a period of time

Range of Motion
The distance and direction a joint can move to its full potential
Flexibility
The ability of your joints to move through a full range of motion

Acceleration
The rate at which the velocity of a body changes over time

Agility
The ability to change the body's position efficiently (nimbleness)

Balance
A state of equilibrium, equal distribution of weight

Deltoid
A large, triangular muscle covering the joint of the shoulder. The action of which
raises the arm away from the side of the body

Gastrocnemius
The largest muscle in the calf of the leg, the action of which extends the foot,
raises the heel, and assists in bending the knee.
Gluteus Maximus (Glute)
The broad, thick, outermost muscle of the buttocks, involved in the rotation and
extension of the thigh.

Biceps Femoris (Hamstrings)


The flexor muscles located on the back of the thigh that assist in flexing of the
thigh.

Biceps Brachii
The flexor muscles located in the front of the upper arm that assists in flexing the
arm.

Latissimus Dorsi (Lats)


A broad, flat muscle on each side of the midback, the action of which draws the
arm backward and downward and rotates the front of the arm toward the body.

Pectoralis Major (Pecs)


Muscles on each side of the upper and anterior part of the chest, the action of to
assist in drawing the shoulder forward and rotating the arm inward
Quadriceps (Quads)
A large muscle in front of the thigh, the action of which extends the leg or bends
the hip joint.

Trapezius (Traps)
A broad, flat muscle on each side of the upper and back part of the neck,
shoulders, and back, the action of which raises, or rotates, or draws back the
shoulders, and pulls the head backward or to one side.

Triceps
A muscle having three heads or points of origin, especially the muscle on the back
of the arm, the action of which straightens the elbow.
