great stop-motion artists of the

this process was very expensive
as the models were hard to
make and it was difficult to
combine live action with the
stop motion characters.
However this was overcome
when Harryhausen was working
on a low budget film called The Clips of early work
Beast from 20,000 Fathoms. and almighty joe
Harryhausen came up with a
technique he later would call
"dynamation". The technique Clip demonstrating
used a split screen, with rear the process of
projection. Split screen had dynamtion
been around as a special effect
from almost the beginning of film
itself. One early clip from France
shows a bicycler rider sailing
over the city of paris. The
photographer had shot it by
covering the bottom half of the
lens with black tape, then filming
the bicycle rider over the top of
it. The mask was then
reversedand the film rewound
inside the camera. The film
would then be exposed again,
this time the photographing the
city of Paris through the bottom
half of the lens. When the film
was developed, the rider
appeared to be sailing across
the Paris skyline.

This technique changed the Clips of use of
