Free Community Colleges

In the modern society, we spend an average of 20 years getting formal education. If you think

about it, between high school, undergraduate, graduate and PHD education, we use around 40

% of our lifetime learning and spending money on education. Community Colleges should be

free because they provide the population with equal opportunities and a more educated

society.

Equal opportunity means that students will not be limited by money to continue their

education. On average, 70 % of students struggle to pay their college tuition, some of them

have to work or take loans to pay for their college education, creating a disadvantage by

limiting access to education and resources that the community colleges offer. Free access to

community colleges will provide the students with the tools that they need to be successful,

meaning that they can apply for better jobs or create their own company. Students will be

motivated to pursue their dreams and careers.

If more people have access to a free community college education, the lower income families

will change their economic status, creating a more stable society where people can have more

chances of a good life without the need to do illegal things. A study of the University of

Columbia reveals that students that have access to a community college education are more

likely to continue their studies than high school students that start to work right away. This

educated society will be visible many years after ,but, it will be significant in the economy and

the culture of the country.

Some people argue that free community colleges will increase the students laziness and

demotivation, because the student will not have any reason to value their education and they

wont make any effort to have a good grade. This problem can be easily solved with a policy of

no free repetition, meaning that students who fail will have to pay the full course if they want

to retake it.

In conclusion, a high school diploma is no longer enough for a good job, community college

education should be available for all the students no matter their economic situation. If more

people can have access to a higher education, the quality of life will be improve, meaning more

opportunities, equality and better jobs.
