1. Introduce to students that they will be working over the next couple weeks to create their own How-To manual
2. Show examples of manuals and begin brainstorming ideas for their own manual
1. Optional: Finish/Use Appendix 3 "Finding Topics in the Ordinary" from yesterday, and have the students choose an
"ordinary" or familiar activity (i.e. SLIME!!!) to create a "how to" manual or poster for a target audience
3. Brainstorm at least 3 non-fiction topics and target audiences (i.e. slime/4th grade students, frying the perfect egg/
college students, how to ride a bike/5 year olds)
1. should be topics they already know about or understand (this is not a research project; students need to know steps
to go along with their topic without researching them).
Differentiation
For students who have trouble identifying a topic, have them verbally re-tell (then write down) how to make
slime....especially check with Jorden, Sophia, Aaysa, Ashlynn
