Pastors Corner
This Sunday, October 29, well have a special meeting for everyone in our congregation to
hear about what our church has accomplished thus far in 2017 and what is planned for 2018
and beyond. Even though I produce a State of the Church report for charge conference
each year, it is a written report, read by few, and represents my own point of view. I will be
glad to share the Pastors State of the Church report with any who ask for it, but far more
interesting will be the presentation on Sunday, because it will be visual and will represent a
wide range of thinking from our various staff members and volunteer leaders.
The meeting will take place in Fellowship Hall from 9:45 to 10:35 am this Sunday. If you are a regular in
Fellowship Hall to drink coffee, eat, and enjoy fellowship, we ask for this one Sunday to keep conversation low
and to a minimum so that everyone can hear the presentation and be able to ask questions at the end. We
normally will never ask to take over Fellowship Hall during fellowship time, but the items in our presentation
do truly represent the totality of our ministry here at ESUMC and are important enough to call for the full
attention of the congregation. Thank you for your cooperation this Sunday!
We want to make sure that everything you see on the screen in Fellowship Hall is also in your hands, so that
you can ask pertinent questions and be able to comment on the presentation. This Sunday, we will have
printed versions of the slide presentation available for everyone, as well as the list of our church leadership
who were elected at our recent charge conference on October 5. Please know that you can ask questions
about anything related to our churchs ministry either at the conclusion of the presentation or any other time
afterwards. We want to make sure our congregation is always well informed!
Also coming this Sunday is the beginning of a fourteen day devotional to help prepare our hearts for
Commitment Sunday, which will be on November 12. As I announced last Sunday, if you are an email
(Continued on page 2)
(Continued from page 1)
subscriber to our weekly Trumpet Call, you will also receive the devotional all fourteen days, beginning Sunday. It
will arrive in your inbox each day just after midnight. We pray that this will not be an annoyance to you but a
blessing, but if it is the former, just please know it will only last two weeks! Who knows? If it is appreciated by a
majority of people, it could become a daily devotional, as many larger churches do this for their congregations. If
you are not an email subscriber, we will have printed devotionals available on Sunday for your spiritual journey. We
beg the Lords mercy for all the trees were cutting down for this weekend!
Commitment booklets were distributed last Sunday, but they will also be available every Sunday leading up to
November 12. On November 12, if you have not already filled out the forms in the back of the booklet, dont
despair, as they will be available that Sunday to fill in and deposit in the appropriate basket. We do hope that you
and your family members make this a matter of prayer in these next two weeks, and each person or family comes
prepared to prayerfully deposit their Ministry Commitment Form in one basket and their Estimate of Financial Giving
form in the other basket provided. It is always moving for me to watch everyone come forward with their
commitments on that Sunday! Thank you each and every one for your past and current generosity, which I know
will be reflected in this years commitment campaign.
Blessings, Pastor Jim
Better to Give
And Jesus said to him, Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but
the Son of Man has nowhere to lay His head.
Matthew 8:20
In 2016, Americans spent nearly $33 billion on self-storage. In 2015, less than
ten percent of U.S. households rented a self-storage unit. So far in 2017, con-
struction on new self-storage units has topped $240 million per month.1 Some
of that storage is short-term, of course: people in transition, settling estates,
storing business inventories, and so on. But the majority is in use for one rea-
son: We have more stuff than we know what to do with.
When considering generosity, consider how Christ lived. Imitate Him as the
A Benefit to Joining Spirit of God leads. Give as you have been given.
