SAINTS AND SPECIAL OBSERVANCES
Archbishop José Horacio Gomez will celebrate Sunday Sunday: Twenty-first Sunday in Ordinary Time
Mass at San Gabriel Mission, 8:30 AM, September 5th— Monday: St. Rose of Lima
As (acting) local Dean of Deanery 10 in the San Gabriel Tuesday: St. Bartholomew
Pastoral Region, it has been my responsibility to organize Wednesday: St. Louis of France; St. Joseph Calasanz
and involve all 18 of our parishes in a celebration of the Friday: St. Monica
Holy Eucharist to welcome and meet our new archbishop. Saturday: St. Augustine
THANKFULLY, the faith community at the Mission,
together with their priests and leadership, have arranged
most of the on-site particulars and logistics. (A major
accomplishment given that it is Labor Day weekend and the
weekend of their annual parish festival!) The other 17
parishes are invited to participate by assuring attendance
and by designating someone to carry a “parish banner” in
procession. Archbishop Gomez will be the principal
celebrant and homilist. After the Mass, he will be available
in the Mission Gardens to meet and shake hands with those
who would like to personally meet him and wish him well.
You will find a flyer in next week’s bulletin to inform you of
some of “those logistics” I mentioned and other needed
information. All are welcome!

SPECIAL COLLECTION-MISSION SUNDAY

for Woman & Children in Bangkok, Thailand. Envelopes are in

Pre-School Sunday School for ages 3-5, and
Monday Religious Education for grades 1-5.

certificate and $50 fee per child. Grades 6-8

We need a teacher volunteer for the Religious Education Program
for 3rd grade. All curriculum and planning is done for you, and
this experience is one that is truly rewarding.

RCIA CLASSES BEGIN SEPTEMBER 14
Are you interested in becoming a Catholic? Perhaps you’re not
sure and simply want to inquire about the Faith. Or are you a
Catholic who wants to gain enrichment in your faith?
Then come to orientation on the Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults (RCIA), Tuesday, September
14, at 7:30 pm in the St. Rita Rectory. The RCIA
team of Deacon Manuel and Chela Valencia and
Susan Blakeslee will lead classes every Tuesday
from 7:30-9 pm, with classes concluding during
Holy Week 2011.
To register for RCIA, just come to the first class. For more

PARISH MONTHLY NOVENA
In celebration of St. Rita’s Centennial, a Parish Novena was
prepared for each month. We are continuing the practice because
it has been well-received. The August Novena to Our Lady of Hope
is available in the Vestibule. Pick up a copy and pray for nine
consecutive days. May Our Lady of Hope bless you.

Sierra Madre Family Preparedness Festival

Are you prepared? Have you been gathering your emergency
supplies for your car and home? St. Rita Parish has been noted as
being the most responsive to the program. There will be a follow-
up to the original questionnaire distributed in September and,
hopefully all of your “no” answers will have become “yes”

A Taste of Sierra Madre
Kersting Court 9-4:30
St. Rita School has purchased a booth at this all-day event. Sierra
Madre Police & Fire departments will host a cook-off followed by
live bands, with our own Paul Puccinelli closing the program with
patriotic songs and an expanded community choir (begins 4 pm).
Benefits the Rotoplast Foundation and the Sierra Madre Youth
Activities Center. General Admission: $20.
BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT PROGRAM
St. Luke Parish, Temple City, is offering an eight-week
Bereavement Support Program, beginning Thursday, September
16, at 7 pm in the Parish Resource Center (located in the Rectory).

Communion for Sick and Homebound Parishioners
St. Rita ministers provide Communion home visits. Contact the
Parish office or Jill Muhs, 626.355.9810, em@st-rita.org.
If Someone In Your Family Becomes Seriously Ill
Please notify us (626.355.1292) as early as possible for the
Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill
or dying. It is Our Lord’s special presence and companionship in
serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the
hospital or elsewhere and as often as once a month. If someone
should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive
is sufficient and the Lord cares!
If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One
Please call us at 626.355.1292
If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we
will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral
directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer
you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of
readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you
with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral
services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you
to know that your parish is there for you.
PLEASE UNDERSTAND that since we only have one resident
priest, sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.
