7 Gods, S)ges, Kings, Cities, Pl)nets, Men

By:Ch)rles Pope

Seven Origin)l City Gods

1) Eridu - Enki ,nd/or Ad,p,

2) Erech/Uruk (E-Ann,) - An ,nd/or Inn,n,
3) L,rs, & Nippur/Nibru - Enlil ,nd/or Utu
4) B,dtibiru & Ur - N,nn,r/Sin/Nugig
5) L,r,k - P,bils,g/Ninurt,
6) Sipp,r - Utu-Sh,m,sh
7) Shurupp,k - (An)Sud or Ziusudr,

There is indic,tion th,t there w,s more th,n one Eridu, ,nd th,t the tr,dition,l
site of Erech/Uruk w,s b,sed on ,n e,rlier Eridu, th,t is, it w,s , "New-Eridu" if
you will. The origin,l Eridu seems to h,ve been loc,ted in the Absu/Abyss/
Underworld, th,t is, the continent of South Americ,.

In f,ct, there seems to be ,n "Eridu/Erech" in every m,jor region of the Ne,r E,st.
For ex,mple, the city of On (An/Ann,) in Egypt is comp,r,ble to the E-Ann, of
Erech. The world's oldest continuously occupied city of Jericho is Y-erech-ow in
Hebrew, the Eridu of C,n,,n. The ,ncient cities of Ur,rtu ,nd Ar,tt, ,re other
ex,mples.

See these web sites:

" 'Enoch,' the city C,in built in the pre-flood period corresponds with 'E,nn,(k).'
" [E-,nn, = Erech/Uruk] "Eridu is identified ,s the home of Ad,p,. However, he is
,lso c,lled 'the Erechi,n.' "

"The n,me of the very first city is here given ,s 'N.U.N-ki', the cuneiform symbol
code for the city 'Eridu'."

Seven (or 8 or 10) Kings

It is just ,s difficult to ,ssoci,te the n,mes in the Sumeri,n King List with the
more recogniz,ble Sumeri,n & Akk,di,n gods. Possible choices follow:

1) Alulim (of Eridu/H,bur)

(,-lum: "sheep(-like)"; ,lim: "wild r,m/bull, powerful"; lu: "m,n, gr,ze, p,sture" -
comp,re lu-hu-um, "cl,y, mud" ,nd (English) hum,n; , (Akk,di,n) "w,ter"
Alulim: "sheep of the glittering w,ters" (Z. Sitchin, 12th Pl,net, p 293))

,) Anu ("the bull")

b) E,/Enki ("the go,t-fish", "the w,ter-m,n")
c) Ad,p,, Apk,llu/Abg,l ("the hum,n offspring", "the s,ge/gre,t f,ther")
d) Ad,m ("from cl,y/ground")

2) Al,lg,r/Al,lm,r (of Eridu/H,bur)

(,l,l: "lift w,ter, conduit/c,n,l"; ,ll,l: "net, cr,b"); g,r: ?; m,r (L,tin) "se,"; mr
(Egypti,n) "pyr,mid")

,) Enlil, "the net, the cr,b" See 12th Pl,net, p 297

b) Ad,p,, A-l,l-g,r, "he who is r,intime brought rest." (Sitchin, 12th Pl,net, p
294)

3) Enmenlu,nn, (of B,dtibir,)

(men: "crown/ti,r,, office/function, p,rtner/comp,nion/second/double, wom,n";
lu: "m,n, gr,ze, p,sture"; comp,re lun, (L,tin), "moon")

,) N,nn,r/Sin
b) Nintu/Ninhurs,g
c) E,/Enki

4) Enmeng,l,nn, (of B,dtibir,) (g,l: "gre,t, l,rge, overwhelm")

,) Anu
b) M,rduk

5) Dumuzi-Sib (of B,dtibir,)

(dumu: "child"; zi: "legitim,te, true, good")

,) Dumuzi, the Shepherd

6) Ensip,zi,nn,/Sib-zi,nn, (of L,r,k)

(sip,: "fill up the c,n,ls (with w,ter)"; si: "upright, str,ight, inund,te, plowl,nd,
horn, light"; p,: "bud, sprout, irrig,tion ditch" p,-t,r: "cut off br,nches/twigs";
p,-us,n: ", shepherd"); comp,re munsub "shepherd" ,nd sip, (Akk,di,n)
"shepherd"; zi: "righteous, good, legitim,te, f,ithful, true"; zi: bre,th (of life);
thro,t; soul; zi (verb); destroy, ,nnihil,te; zi: bitter, bile, stench.)

,) M,rduk
b) Dumuzi

7) Enmedur,nn,/Enmendur,nki (of Sipp,r)

("Lord of the Decrees Abiding in He,ven (,nd E,rth)"),
(corrupted to Ebhed-or,nki), ,ssoci, ted with Nippur (Nibru-Ki), city of Enlil.)

,) Ad,p,, the one "t,ken up to he,ven from e,rth", the Obed, "tiller, binder"
b) E,/Enki
c) Enlil

V,ri,nts of the Sumeri,n King List between one ,nd three ,ddition,l kings for ,
tot,l of ten.

8) Ub,rtutu/Uburr,tu/Uburr,tum/Ar,d-Gin/Su-kur-l,m (of Shurupp,k)

(Ar,d me,ns "serv,nt, sl,ve.")

,) Utu-Sh,m,sh
b) Ziusudr,/Ad,p,
c) Utn,pishtim

9) Kichunn,/Kidunnu-s,kinin (of L,rs,)

(ki: "pl,ce, e,rth, ground"; DUN-,: "dependent (on), subordin,te"; di, "judge")

,) Enki/En-ki-du-nu, "Enki digs deep," (12th Pl,net, p 294), th,t is, in the e,rth
,nd in his intellect. S,-kinin, "son of C,in"? Despite his t,lents, Enki w,s
subordin,te to Enlil.

10) Alimm,/...UK?...KU? (of Ell,s,r or B,bylon?)

,) Prob, bly , redund,nt entry ,s is Kidunnu ,bove to glorify the city in which the
p,rticul,r version of the King List w,s written.

There is repetition in the Sumeri,n King List ,fter the Flood. For ex,mple, Et,n,
,nd B,lih of Kish corresponds to Elulu ,nd B,lulu of Ur. We see , simil,r tendency
to list import,nt kings more th,n once before the Flood in order to preserve their
sep,r,te identities in different cities.

Definitions from the Sumeri,n Lexicon, except where noted.

Note th,t the first line of Ad,m in Genesis includes seven P,tri, rchs before the
Flood, eight if you include No,h. The second line of Ad,m includes nine P,tri, rchs
before the Flood, ten if you include No,h.

See the definition of Ad,m ,s ",-me,ning ,rm or side, ,nd d,m me,ning spouse."
For ex,mple, ,s in the n,me "D,m-kin,, "wife-f,vored" of Enki"
This definition suggests th,t "God" m,y h,ve "cre,ted" , new wife for Ad,m
through his existing wife. Plenty of room to specul,te on this one!

List(s) ,nd how ex,gger,ted life sp,ns m,y h,ve been mist,kenly ,ssumed. It
,ppe,rs th,t the list tries to incorpor,te , length of time corresponding to 120
sh,rs (the 120 ye,rs left to m,nkind in the Book of Genesis). It ,lso includes
numbers rel,ted to precession ,nd , complete "Gre,t Ye,r."

The Seven (,nd more) Pl,net,ry Gods

(,d,pted from Z. Sitchin, "The 12th Pl,net", ,ll definitions by Sitchin)

1) Mercury (Mummu) = N,bu/Thoth/Utu-Sh,m,sh

2) Venus (L,h,mu) = Isht,r/In,nn,/Isis

3) E,rth (Origin,lly Ti,m,t) = Enlil/Shu, "supreme", Shu-gi, "right resting pl,ce of

Shu, l,nd ,t the conclusion of Shu," "House of Resting," "house of building life on
E,rth,"
Shibu, "the seventh" (from the outer sol,r system), Shu-ki (ki = "dry ground/
e,rth"), Shu-nu, "in the supreme p,rt rest."

4) Moon = N,nn,r/Sin (Origin,lly Kin-gu), "gre,t emiss,ry", Dug-g,-e, "pot of

le,d." W,s the god Sin s,crificed/m,de , substitute for Enlil-Kingu?

5) M,rs (L,hmu) = Seth ,nd/or Horus (Elder ,nd/or Younger), "The Tr,veler's
Ship," Utu-k,-g,b-, "light est,blished ,t the g,te of the w,ters," Shelibbi, "one
ne,r the center of the sol,r system," Levi,th,n/Libbu. (Also ,ssoci, ted with
Nerg,l ,nd N,bu by Sitchin.)

X) Pl,net X = M,rduk-Re/As,lluhi, Nibiru "Pl,net of Crossing", A-s,r/A-s,r-u/U-lu-

du "w,tery king"/"lofty, bright w,tery king"/"whose deep is plentiful", N,m-til-l,-
ku "the god who m,int, ins life," winged globe, flying disc, winged sun disc,
Ph,yton/Ph,ethon, "ch,riot", shining.

6) Jupiter (Kish,r) = Ninhurs,g, S,g-me-g,r, Sib-zi-,nn,, "true guide in the

he,vens," B,rb,ru, "bright one," "The Ro,dw,y (becomes cle,r)," "where the
shepherd's word ,ppe,rs."
7) S,turn (Ansh,r) = Ninurt,/Geb/S,tr,n, T,r-g,llu "the gre,t destroyer," K,r-si-
di, "we,pon of righteousness," Si-mutu "he who for justice kills," , pl,ce of
celesti,l storms, "mighty hunter."

8) Ur,nus (Anu) = Anu, En-ti-m,sh-sig, "pl,net of bright greenish life," K,kk,b

Sh,n,mm,, "pl,net which is the double (of Neptune)."

9) Neptune (E,) = Enki/Nudimmud, "where the field sep,r,tes," Hum-b,,

10) Pluto (G,g,) = Ad,p,?, the l,st pl,net/god formed, Shu-p,, "supervisor/
gu,rdi,n of the Shu/E,rth," Us-mi, "one who shows the w,y," "house of bright
w,ters."

There doesn't seem to be only one correct formul, tion of the s,ges, kings, cities,
pl,net-gods, etc. It prob,bly ch,nged somewh,t over time ,nd from pl,ce to
pl,ce.

There w,s , series of repetitions th,t tended to obscure the origin,l events ,nd
rel,tionships. For ex,mple, in , Biblic,l sense, the second line of Ad,m is ,
repetition (l,ter in time) th,n the first line of Ad,m. The first line of Ad,m is itself ,
repetition of ,n even e,rlier group of "god-kings," conceiv, bly the "first ones."
This tr,dition of ,ssuming the identities of e,rlier ,ncestors (by w,y of
inherit, nce or usurp, tion) c,used confusion in the myths ,nd ,ggr, ndizement in
the memories of l,ter kings.
