STANDARD 3: Learning Environments

The teacher works with others to create environments that support individual and collaborative
learning, and that encourage positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self
motivation.

In music, this means that the students perform the music by themselves and with the
class. Even when the teacher is giving examples for the students, they should participate in some
way to keep engaged with the music. In addition to this, the teacher can allow the students to
perform with their peers to get a sense of collaboration and teamwork.

I feel as if I am well-versed in creating a suitable environment for learning. I am able to

set up scenarios in which students can experience positive social interactions with others and by
themselves. I am also comfortable in giving students ways to participate in the music and learn
new aspects of music.

Although I am confident in my abilities, I can still gain more experience through my

music education classes and in my choir classes. We perform a variety of exercises in concert
choir meant to work with our voice parts and to learn what a choir sounds like. I can pay
attention to what the directors do in order to improve and become better.
