A1. DESCRIPTION
The Hose Reel System is a pressurized water in a piping system using one unit Electrical pump set as duty pump and one unit
Diesel Engine Pump as standby pump. The pressurized water will be discharged in form of jet spray or water spray via Hose Reel
nozzles.
The system is designed to operate in automatic mode and manual mode. The automatic mode is operates by means of Pressure
switch and manual mode is operates by manual starting on pump sets control panel.
a) Water is pressurized in the piping of Hose Reel System. Turn ON the 1 diameter Hose Reel Gate Valve. Pull out the
hose. Discharge the water by adjusting the Nozzle head. Water will be discharged in form of water jet or water spray
patterns. The water pressure in the pipe line will drop.
b) Once the pressure in the pipeline drop below drop below preset value of the Duty Pump Pressure Switch, the Duty Pump
will run automatically.
c) Should the rate of discharging is to high or Duty Pump fail to run due to over loading or power supply problem and the
pressure drop further, the pressure switch will activate the Standby Pump. Once the Standby Pump is activated, it must
stopped manually.
d) When the Hose Reel in used is shut off, the pressure in pipeline will build up again and when it reach the cutout pressure
in the pressure switch, the Duty Pump will automatically stopped.
e) The Hose Reel drum is swing type and the hose can be pulled out in any direction for use. The diameter of the Hose is
1 and the Hose length is 100 feet.
f) There are two pressures are to be set on pressure switch i.e. the cut-out pressure and the cut-in for the pump set. On the
pressure switch there 2 scale reading. The Range scale setting is for Pump cutout and the difference scale setting is for
cut-in. For example, if the range is on 50 psi, that means the Duty Pump will cut-in at 50 psi. Pressure switch must be set
according to Pump capacity.
h) The cut-in pressure of Standby Pump should be set at 30 to 35 psi below the duty pump cut-in pressure.
The Hose Reel Panel or Hose Reel Controller is designed to operate either in Manual Start or Auto Start.
a) For the automatic operation, turn the following control switches to position indicated:
DUTY / STANDBY PUMPS
Main Isolator - ON
Supply to pump isolator - ON
Mode selector switch - AUTO
b) The control system will be activated by the drooping of the water pressure in the line. The Duty Pump
will cut-in once the pressure drops below the preset value (50 psi).
c) The Pump Run indicator will illuminate in the controller when the pump is turn-on.
d) Should the Duty Pump fail to start due to the failure of tripping of the electric motor, the Standby Pump will take over
automatically. Similarly, the Duty Pump trip or A/C failure indicator will be illuminated.
e) Should the great demand of flow and when the Duty Pump is unable to cope up, the Standby Pump will also turn ON
automatically. Once Diesel Pump set has started, it must to stop MANUALLY.
f) The important operation condition of the pumpset must be monitored on the Fire Alarm Panel are
The controller is fitted with Manual Start for testing and emergency application independent of Auto Start control system.
a) For manual operation, turn the following control switches to position indicated :
Main Isolator - ON
Supply to pump isolator - ON
Mode selector switch - MANUAL
b) Press the Start button on the Duty Controller. When the Pumpset starts, the start switch must be release.
c) Should the Duty Pump fail to start, repeat the item (ii) on the Standby Controller. Once the Standby Pumpset is
started manually, it must be manually reset to stop.
In the normal working condition, the following indicator and switches must be observed.
The pressure gauge reading should be noted monthly for reference. Should the reading slightly drops indicated some leaking in
the pipe line. Variation in ambient temperature some times cause the variation in pressure in pipeline. Should the drops bellow the
preset setting, the Duty Pumpset will ON automatically.
Always ensure that water supply to the system is always turn ON so that the system can be full operating condition at all times.
Strainers, Pipeline and Hoses should be examined to determine their condition and to ensure proper drainage. Control valves,
pressure gauges and pressure switches should be test at least twice a year.
To ensure water storage tank is always full of water and the incoming is turn ON.
A7. HOW TO OPERATE A HOSE REEL
a) Turn ON the 1 diameter gate valve and pull out the hose from the drum.
b) Turn ON the nozzle and direct water jet at the base of the fire.
c) When the fire is pull-off, turn off the nozzle and 1 diameter Hose Reels stop valve.
d) Wind back the hoses to its original position.
e) The Hose Reel is only a first aid system.
f) Do not attempt to use Hose Reel to fight electrical fire.
g) Do not use the Hose Reel to water the plant or building cleaning.
Periodic checking, testing and servicing of the following is recommended for every three month.
B1. DESCRIPTION
In general, the Fire Detection System by means of sensors such as manual call point, heat detectors, smoke detectors, Fire Alarm
Panel etc. is called Fire Alarm System.
Fire Alarm Panel is could be in fully digitized or conventional transistorized system. TESDEC is equipped with fully transistorized
conventional fire detection and alarm system. The system is only consist of Manual Call Point ( Break Glass ) as the alarm
triggering device. The control system is housed in a signal red mild steel cabinet as a Fire Alarm Panel.
Each or the zone indicates the area affected the type of alarm triggering devices activated. In our case only Manual Call Point
(Break Glass) involved.
The alarm detected is bold audible and visible (Alarm Bell ringing and light flashing ). Fault and Pump indication are also bold
audible and visible (buzzer sound and indicator Light ON).
There is one (2 units of 12v) of 24v 24AH standby battery capable to maintain the system for 72 hours and minima one hour alarm
load in case of TNB power failure. A battery charger is also provided for automatic charging of the battery.
1. NORMAL CONDITION
Set all rotary switches to NORMAL position, switch ON main supply and connect the standby battery.
On normal condition, only two indicator are ONE ie MAINS ON and DC ON. All other indicator light should be OFF.
i) Focus the attention to affected Zone. Set rotary switch to isolate (ISO) position. The alarm Bell will stop ringing but alarm
indicating light ON and stop flashing. The Zone with isolated light ON with buzzer sound showing that the zone is isolated.
ii) Check and inspect the hazard zone and clear the hazard immediately by using fire extinguisher or hose reel.
iii) If you find that the hazard is beyond your control, contact the fire brigade and activate all the alarm bells by switching ON the
EVACUATE switch.
iv) After the hazard has been cleared and the sensing device replaced or reset, set the rotary switch back to NORMAL position.
Reset the Fire Alarm Panel to normal condition by depressing the alarm RESET Switch.
IMPORTANT NOTES
i) If the hazard is not cleared or the affected sensor is not replaced or reset, the zone ALARM light cannot be reset and bell will ring
when the rotary switch is set to NORMAL position.
ii) When the Fire Alarm Panel is in ALARM condition, it is always recommended isolate (ISO) position rather than silencing
the bell using Bell Silence switch in side the Fire Alarm Panel. This is because once the bell is silence, the whole bell
system is cut-off and no bell will ring if other zone is in alarm condition.
Type of Bell Ringing = 2 stage ringing. After five minutes affected zone rings, all
other alarm bells ring continuously on alarm condition
Other facilities can be incorporated during alarm condition e.g. 24V signal to activate the pressurization fan, tripping of AHU
or lift, Magnetic Door Holder etc.
AC Fuse : When this fuse is removed or infused condition, Main Fail indicator will
light.
DC Fuse : This fuse will provide protection of over current from regulated power supply and the charger
Of Fire Alarm Panel. Without this fused, Fused indicator will light.
Battery Fuse: This fuse protects the electronic cards from drawing over current from the standby battery.
Without this fuse, Battery fail indicator will light.
Mains Fail : Main Fail indicator will light and the buzzer sounds when either one of the following
Condition exists:
DC on : This indicator light is ON all the time whenever there is supply (either AC or Standby Battery).
Charger Fail : Charger Fail indicator will light and the buzzer sound when either one of the following condition
Exists :
i- No AC supply
ii- Charger output is under 18V or above 30V
iii- DC Fuse has been removed or DC Fuse infused condition
Battery Fail : Battery Fail indicator will light and the buzzer sounds when either one of the following
Condition exists :
Fused : Fused indicator will light and the buzzer sounds when DC fuse is removed or infused condition.
When fused, Charger Fail indicator will turn ON also.
Bell Line Open : When the Bell is removed or disconnected, Bell Line Open indicator will light and Buzzer sound.
Bell Silence : When the Bell Silence is ON, the green indicator will light and the buzzer sounds.
The alarm Bell will not ring.
Buzzer Silence : When the Buzzer silence is switched to ON position, the Buzzer Silence green
Indicator is light indicating that the Buzzer has been cut-off and will not sound.
Evacuate : The Evacuate Switch is incorporated to give warning to the public to evacuate from the
Build during fire or emergency. Once the evacuate is switch ON, the green indicator
Will light and all the alarm bells in the building will ring.
Fire Brigade : This green indicator illuminated when switch is ON, indicating that signal has been
Transmitted to Fire Brigade (optional).
Alarm Reset : The alarm reset push button switch is incorporated for resetting the alarm condition
When the system is back to normal due to the Latching Circuit.
Test Bulbs : To check that all the bulbs (LED) are good. Switch On the Test Bulbs will cause all the
LED will light and buzzer sound. Any fuse bulbs must be corrected with voltage
Type (DC 24V). Restore the switch, system will be back to normal.
Alarm : When the alarm signals from sensor is received, the red alarm light for that particular zone will
flash. Further alarm signal of the adjacent zone will cause the adjacent zone indicator to flash
Again. Since the signal is latched, the indicator will remain until the signal is cleared and the
Panel RESET.
Fault : When the external zone detector wiring is open or end of-line resistor is removed, thus amber
Indicator will light and buzzer sound. The Fault indicator will automatically clear when the fault-
Condition is cleared.
Isolate : This green indicator will light and buzzer sound when push-button / isolate switch turned to
ISOLATE position. This cause the flashing ALARM indicator to be steady and the bell will stop
Ringing.
Run : This green indicator will light and buzzer sound when the pump is running. It will automatic clear
When the pump is stop.
Trip : This red indicator will light and buzzer sound when the pump is tripped. It will automatic clear
When the pump is reset.
AC Fail : This red indicator will light and buzzer sound when there is no AC supply to the pump. It will
Automatic clear when AC is restored.
Normal (NORM) : The rotary switch should always be in this position with the system ON. When in this position, no
Indicator light is ON. Any short circuit in the external zone wire will cause an alarm condition
(fault condition).
Test Alarm (T/A) : The panels alarm condition can be tested from the panel by turning rotary switch to Test Alarm
( T/A ). That particular zone will flash when rotary switch is in Test Alarm ON position. The alarm
indicator will remain flashing until the rotary switch is turned back to normal position and the
system reset by pushing the ALARM RESET switch.
(Note : When doing Test Alarm, always cut-off alarm bell. To trigger the AHU and Lift tripped by
toggle switches in site Fire Alarm Panel, permission from authorized personnel must be obtained)
Test Fault (T/F) : When the rotary switch is turned to Test Fault (T/F) it simulates an open circuit from the detectors
To the zone. The amber Fault indicator in the particular zone will light and buzzer sound. The
Fault is automatically clear when rotary switch is turned back to normal position.
Isolate (ISO) : When the rotary switch is turned to Isolate (ISO) position, The Isolate indicator will light and
Buzzer sound and that particular zone is isolated. Alarm condition cannot be initiated from that
Zones sensors. When alarm signal has been received with rotary switch in normal or test alarm
Position, upon isolation, the bell will stop ringing and the alarm flashing indicator will remain
Steady until reset.
