What is the difference between graft and corruption and

corruption?
The Philippines National anti-corruption framework and strategy defines corruption as
the use of public office and betrayal of public trust or private gain, and graft ay the
acquisition of gain in dishonest or questionable manner. Essentially corruption refers to
corruption practices in government while graft refers to corruption in general, including
the private sector. However, the term corruption is commonly used to refer to all forms
of corruption and corruptible acts and practices, both inside and outside of
government. Graft is the illegal gaining of funds, corruption is the improper use of
funds.

Barangay Official & Professional

No- Graft and corruption stemmed from the diminishing or eroding moral values or dimension of the people, in public
or private life! It is a common belief that graft and corruption is well about not only in the high government places or
in high position in businesses or corporations. However graft and corruption is also thriving deep in most dwellings of
the community. First, to define the two is imperative in order to understand the connectivity. And also to understand
the notice that graft and corruption is yet a cause of poverty in the Philippines. Graft is defined as the use of public
position to gain illegal benefit for personal advantage over the states. Corruption according to Merriam Webster
dictionary means the impairment of integrity, value, virtue, or moral principles of the person. Thus, when the
persons integrity, values, or moral principle are impaired, eroded or corrupted, he no longer has the moral rationality
to do good and what is right out rather, employs acts of deceit, using his/her high public status to gain personal
advantage over the other people. So, graft is the characterization or personification of corrupt moral values of a
person to steal or amassing wealth and riches notwithstanding the employment of deceit in arrangement, influence
and power over other people. In the case of public servants in the government, it is the corrupted/eroded moral
values if those in the higher positions that make them commit acts which are considered taboo in the government
science; like the act of graft amassing wealth and riches from the peoples taxes through engaging in illegal projects
or red tape. This in turn, can be attributed to the poverty incidence in the country. To alleviate or reduce therefore the
poverty incidences level in the country, means not only prosecuting and jailing the grafter because grafters are not
only one or two person jailing them puts a stop to graft and corruption. What this county need s to combat poverty is
the strengthening of the value system among the government, private entities and the common people. On the
laymans dictum, Poverty is a choice between right or wrong.

Professional

No, I think graft and corruption is not the cause of poverty in the Philippines, instead it is the unemployment that is
the cause of poverty. If there is enough job for the Filipinos, few, if not all, will get to have enough to support their
families.

Housewife

Yes, I think that graft and corruption is a cause of poverty in the Philippine society simply because the money
intended for the improvement of peoples lives are not being used properly.

Barangay Official

Yes, because some of the money of the people are corrupted and grafted by the officials so there is less money to
help poor people and its effect is poverty.

Barangay Official

Maybe yes, some politicians have excuses on how the national government will provide them like, budget on helping
people.
Barangay Official & Professional

Yes, I believe that graft and corruption is a cause of poverty in the country. Philippines belong to the list countries that
imply strict and high taxes among its people. Due to such situation, a person find it hard to flexibly adjust to certain
functions, sometimes even major necessities, especially those that struggle to earn a stable income and barely eats a
proper meal a day. However, tax must be strictly observed, thus, people that can pay pays. This hard-earned money is
then passed to the government in the hope of the betterment of these people's lives, only to be kept in the greedy
hands of those that do rule over everyone. Then, the hope becomes a longtime wish, which people eventually hardly
believes on, so they do the things the government should have done, basic surviving tactics that most of the time
involves vile schemes such as stealing, kidnapping, hold-ups and many other crimes done by extremely struggling
people of the country. There are many other scenarios we see every day that sharply depicts poverty, however, most of
them are overlooked until they get worse and in the long run transforms into bad situations we can ever think of. The
government does something but sometimes only helps tiny bits from the round ball of problem the people are in. If
the money entrusted to the authorities would only come out as the very purpose they're meant for, poverty would have
somehow lessened if not eradicated.

Professional

Yes- They're only ONE of the factors that cause poverty in the PH, poverty may be the biggest problem but Poverty is
caused of Corruption. Corrupted moneys are for the funds of the poor people, free education, infrastructures and
such. If that money is not corrupted we would have money that is more than enough for the funds. The excess may be
for the street children and for the free housing for the squatters.

Vendor

Yes, because the money that is supposed to be for the people is used by government officials for their own.

Laborer

Yes, because the money that intends for the improvement of life of the poor goes to the pocket of corrupt officials

Business Man

Yes, graft and corruption play a very important role in the status of every citizen in a country. The resources/money/tax
collected from the people is being held by few individuals who are in power instead of being utilized to improve the country
and to generate more jobs for the people. If these resources will be distributed equally to the people, then that is the time
poverty will be lessened. Corruption and poverty run in the same direction: poverty invites corruption, while corruption
deepens poverty.

Laborer

Yes, people cannot solely point to graft and corruption as the only cause of poverty. The status of a family depends on them.
People should also do their part to improve their living situation. Laziness is a contributory factor of being poor. Progress is
attributed to hard work.
Professional & Laborer

No, its our culture that causes poverty. Our culture causes us to adapt mindsets which cause us to remain where we are
financially

1. Okay nay an. We just get contented in what we have.

2. Pakikisama/ Utang na loob. We are forced to make concessions in favor of others instead of following the rules.
3. Many people make fun of the laws and the ones who enforce it.
4. We dont love our country enough. Lots of people dream to work and settle outside the PH. This causes brain drain,
attracting the best the best talents outside the country.
Professional

Yes, one of the greatest causes of poverty in the Philippine society is graft and corruption because all of the money from the
government is being handled by high rank officials and they are the ones authorized to where they want to use the money.

Laborer

Yes, the poverty in the Philippines is usually caused by graft and corruption because the money that must be used for the
improvements, etc is being used by the government officials for their personal gains.

Housewife

Yes, the issue of graft and corruption is very resonant in many parts of the world. Philippines by far was ranked top among
the most corrupt regions in Asian. Some claim that graft and corruption is the ultimate cause of poverty in the PH while most
people feel that there are other causes of human poverty. We should consider that self-disciplined and are educated about
birth control, then they would not be creating more off springs. Attitude in terms of looking for jobs, people now a days live a
sedentary lives and are very resistant to change which makes them very lazy to perform productive works. That makes them
unemployed which makes them empty handed.

Professional

It depends, because the money that supposed to be given to support those in need is only being handed down to corrupt
government officials. Also, lets not give all the blame to our government officials. Those people in need should work as well
in order to gain money for food, shelter and their daily needs. We all know that we could not give our 100% trust to our
government, so we should work hard on our own.

Professional & Laborer

Yes, corruption is the mother of all major causes of poverty. There is no doubt that corruption is to be condemned and
corrupt officials resolutely prosecuted because it erodes trust in the government. It also weakens the moral bonds of civil
society on which democratic practices and processes rest. Without corruption in the AFP, peace and order could have been
in a place long time ago. Without the fertilizer scam, our farmers could have had a better yield. Without corruption, the state
could have provided better education to the youth; which could have been a factor in nation-building. Without corruptions in
the LTO and traffic enforcers, public transport drivers could have been disciplined and earning more. Without corruption, the
state could have put many industries that produce more necessary products and generate more recruitment and could have
checked poverty. Without travel without poverty, people could have been busy with livelihood activities and if they were
busy, they could have fewer children to feet
