1. TUTOR AND WILLING

Greetings:

I would like you to know that I am your English Tutor, my name is Santiago Rendon. I was
born here in Quito, Ecuador yet had the privilege to go and live in the U.S.

It is a pleasure to work here at Israel University and have the opportunity to be your English
Tutor. Please be informed that my whole purpose is to help you in your endeavors to use the
English Language by means of using the four skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) and
the use of grammar & vocabulary; thus enabling you to create a positive, data-driven learning
environment, by means of improving your personal strengths and developing any
weaknesses that need to be addressed.

My intentions are predisposed to help you widen your individual use of the language. Please
feel free to visit me or write to my email:

santiago.uisrael@hotmail.com or you can phone me: 099 290 1671

If I cant answer your call, you can send me a SMS, WhatsApp, or write to my email.

My schedule is Monday - Friday, 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Saturday 7:00 to 12:00 noon.

2. WORKBOOK

I would like to inform you that I am sending you the English Discoveries Student Workbook
that complies with the course that you are taking.

Whether you have taken the Normal Course or Intensive Course, please note:

Normal Course: One (1) unit per week, a total of 8 weeks.

Intensive Course: Two (2) units per week, a total of 4 weeks.

Keep in mind that you are able to fill out the Workbook within the PDF file by means of using
COMENTARIO.

~2~
1. Please use the TEXT BOX to answer your questions.

3. GRAMMAR HELP

Note: Despite the Grammar Help you have in the platform, please keep in mind that I too will
be sending you additional help for every unit so that you may apply it to the units you are
working on.

4. WORKBOOK (PDF) DUE DATES

I would like to inform you that it is of the up-most importance to turn in your homework
assignments from the Workbook on the following week, with the exception of the last unit/s.

For example: unit 1 (Normal Course) or unit 1 & 2 (Intensive Course) on Monday, it is
important to send me the completed assignment on the following Monday; you have up until
12:00 midnight to send me the unit. Any unit sent after that date, I will not accept.

The table below gives you an EXAMPLE for the dates of your assignments. If your
assignments are not turned in by the following week, you shall receive a zero (0) for your
grade on your unit assignment. (Read info. 9)

5. FORUMS

~5~
Once you have entered your Home pg. you need to click Community, then click the image at
Discussion Time Forum and then click one of the Forums located on the right-hand-side at
Class Discussion.

These are the FORUMS I will be sending you that require to be written. You must send your
FORUMS through the Edusoft Platform, not my email address. I will inform you about the
time-frame for the forums.

Note: You are more than welcome to enter the Community Discussion Forums (left-hand-
side) if you please. Nevertheless keep in mind that the ones I will be grading are the Class
Discussion Forums.

BE ADVISED: Your forums have to be written on a personal basis, your own opinion. If I get
COPY/PASTE, it will have a zero.

6. UNITS TO SEND

If you are in the process of sending me the unit (Normal), or units (Intensive) that you are
working on, please only send me that specific unit/s. Do not send me the entire workbook
at the same time. You must send me only the unit/s that you have completed at this moment.
Please make sure that you send me one PDF file on the unit that you are working on. Make
sure that your Workbook Unit Assignments are sent to:

santiago.uisrael@hotmail.com

~6~
7. GROUP IDENTIFICATION

I would like to inform you to please let me know who you are, what course and group that you
are in, and the unit you are sending. For example:

Teacher, I am ..(name).. from Normal Basic 1, Group 96, I am sending unit

Teacher, I am ..(name).. from Intensive Intermediate 2, Group 101, I am sending unit

.

8. WRITE IN ENGLISH

Keep in mind that it is of the up-most importance for you to write to me by means of using the
English language.

For example: NO SE PUEDE ESCRIBIR EN ESPAOL.

You must make an effort to write and use the English written skills. This, by all means, will not
benefit me; it benefits you when you have to use the written skills on your unit and forum
assignments.
~7~
9. PERSONAL VISIT

I know that this is an Online Edusoft Activity and that sometimes you do not turn in your
homework or forum assignments on their scheduled time frame. Keep in mind that I give you
an entire week (7 days) to complete the workbook, or two (2) weeks to complete your forums.
Therefore my purpose is to inform you that if you turn in any late assignments and you would
wish for me to grade them, there are three options that need to be done:

Come to the University and have a conversation in the English language, explaining why you
were not able to turn in your assignment. (I will ask questions in respect to this topic).

1. Write a forum of 150 words related to the absence of your unit (this would cover me
grading your unit).
2. Write a forum of 150 words related to a specific topic I ask.

10. TEST

PLACEMENT TEST

Mid-Term or Final Test

Please keep in mind that you have two tests that are required, a Mid-Term Test and a Final
Test. You must be logged in at least 10 minutes before 10:00 A.M.

Mid-Term Test: Taken after the 4th unit.

Final Test: Taken after the 8th unit.

Obviously we will be sending you information regarding these tests that are taken on the
platform as shown on the image above.

~8~
If an error exists, you must immediately show some type of evidence, and then the final date
for the test will be on the following date (MONDAY) at 10:00 pm. There will be no exceptions
on this matter.

NOTE: Do not confuse the Placement Test with the Course Test (Mid Term or Final
Test)

11. PLATFORM USE

I would like you to know that the Edusoft Platform is open from start to finish: in other words,
once you enter the platform and start your activities (unit 1) it will not close until you have
finished all eight (8) units. This means that if you are now working on unit 6 and you want to
go back to gain more knowledge from unit 1, you are free to roam the platform.

NOTE: If you happen to be using the platform and for some specific reason you no longer
navigate in the platform, there is a time limit and it will automatically log-off. This means that
if you are also doing a test and you happen to stop for a specific time frame, the platform will
log-off and you will be graded for your test as is. Therefore once you start doing the test-finish
it. I will not re-open the test.

I also suggest that you work a minimum of two (2) hours on a daily basis inside of the
platform.
12. WHO IS MY TUTOR

Click INBOX and you will see the name posted.

~9~
13. WHAT IS YOUR SUBJECT?

NAME SUBJECT

I would like to inform you that it is very important to place the SUBJECT of your work when
you send me your email. There are moments that I need to focus on just one aspect (subject)
of your work and you need to tell me what it is.

For Example:

NAME TITLE/ SUBJECT

Luis Montenegro Unit 1
Javier Velasco Unit 2
Lupe Negreti Unit 3
Susan Vasquez Mid Term Test
Rebecca Ramos Workbook
Santiago Rodriguez Final Test
Etc. Etc.

~ 10 ~
14. STUDENT COMMUNICATION

It is of the highest significance to send me complete details of who you are, course and group
that you are in. For example:

Name of student Course Group

Jose Wilfredo Vasquez Molina Basic 2 88
Maria Belen Lopez Rodriguez Intermediate 1 76
Santiago Fernando Vega Plaza Advanced 3 92

Please keep in mind that I have a multitude of students from different courses, and it is of the
upmost importance not to use NICKNAMES (APODOS). I will not waste my time looking for:

majo, suicidio, gordita, flaco, pecas, flor, rosita, reina, tito, princesa, chicle, loco, vainilla, etc.

15. EVALUATION PARAMETERS

ITEM PERCENTAGE
COURSE COMPLETION 10%
MIDTERM TEST 25%
COURSE TEST 25%
AVERAGE TEST SCORES 10%
PDF - HOMEWORK/WORKBOOK 5%
FORUM AND E-MAIL 10%
ATTENDANCE 5%
PARTICIPATION 10%
TOTAL 100%

These are items and percentages on how you are graded in your course. Please keep in mind
that you need a total of 70 or above to pass the course. If you happen to have anything less
than that and it can be justified, I will be more than willing to hear your facts, but it has to be
done here in the office and no later than one (1) day after I send you the final grade.
