Subject: MEDIA AND INFORMATION LITERACY Grade: 12 Semester: 1st
Competency: editorializes the roles and functions of media in a democratic society (MIL11/12EMIL-
IIIb-6)
I. Objective/s
At the end of the lesson, the students are expected to:
a. Editorialize the roles and functions of media in a democratic society
II. Contents
a. Topic: The Evolution of Traditional to New Media
b. References: Media and Information Literacy Teaching Guide for Senior High School, pp.
Media and Information Literacy Curriculum Guide for Senior High School, pp.
c. Materials: presentation of the lesson; sample of digital poster
III. Procedure
A. Opening It Up
1. Prayer
Have somebody from the class to lead a prayer.
2. Checking of Attendance
Ask the class secretary to report on the attendance
3. Review
Present a picture of an object that relates to any of the eras in media development.
Have someone identify in which era it belongs and have him explain it briefly.
4. Presentation of Lesson Objective
5. Motivation
Present a news clip about the recent discovery of a secret group in FB where people
shared nude pics and videos of women and children. Have the students react by
saying something about the action initiated by FB administration and the
Cybercrime division of PNP.
B. Presentation of the Lesson
Class Sharing
Ask students to share their unwanted personal experiences in using different media and
how they overcame the situation.
Media Development Timeline
Group the students manageably according to their class size. Have each group decide on
a societal issue where Filipinos are mostly involved and concerned with. Have them draft a plan for a
digital poster. Using an application of their choice, have each create a digital poster about it drawing
youth like them to be proactive to defend themselves against the harms of different media.
IV. Generalization
Have some students to cite experiences their classmates shared and their reflections on
them.
V. Evaluation
Have the students answer the following question:
How can a teenager like you become more involved in fighting against the harms of
media?
VI. Agreement:
Have the students submit their outputs in Google Classroom.
VII. Remarks/Reflection
The digital posters of the students were strong enough to show that they are fully aware about
the harms different media may bring. The posters were creative and meaningful especially in
rallying for certain causes.
