THE CLARION CALL

Go...Make disciples...baptizing them...teaching
them(Matthew 28:19-20)
Whats in a Name?
Why the Clarion Call? Why not just Newsletter? These are the questions I received when I first
told some in the congregation about the new Newsletter. I have to admit that it can seem like a very unassum-
ing name, but there is a specific reason why I chose it. As we have been studying the names of God for the
past few weeks, it has been evident to me that, in the Bible, names have purpose. By understanding a name,
we can see the purpose, meaning, and power of the object or person that we are referring to, and that is the
reason for this name.
So what is a Clarion Call? Clarion is a trumpet. It was a call to arms or action for warriors on the
field of battle, or a shrill sound of alarm to draw attention to the attack of the enemy. It was to be heeded and
responded to, so that the individuals would know how to be effective in the heat of moment.
The purpose of this newsletter is to inform you about the coming events in the church ministries, so
that you can participate as God is leading you. You will find information in here to help you develop in your
daily walk. We will write about ways for you to contribute to the mission of this church. Each section is meant
to inform, encourage, and urge you to action in the life of this congregation.
This Clarion Call is meant to help us to carry out the Great Commission as we seek to reach a dead and
dying world with the truth, love, and Gospel of Jesus Christ. It is a call to action that we might be prepared to
press back against the forces of Satan, who seek to take our eyes of our true mission in this world.
In His Service,
Pastor Caleb
A Season of Thanks
Next month marks my sixth month being here at EWBC.
I have to admit that, in a good way, it feels like my family and I
have been here for a lot longer. It feels like we have known all of
you for our whole lives. We love our town, state, and, most of
all, our church so very much. We look forward to Gods marvel-
ous path He has set before all of us. We are reminded everyday
of how richly God has blessed our family in bringing us here to
East Williamson.
As I ponder all of this, I cannot help but think about the
approaching holiday of Thanksgiving and the importance of giving thanks in the Christian walk. From our
prayers said before meals to words of gratitude spoken to others, thanksgiving is a part of our life. Many
may take it for granted, but we, as Christians, are called to live it out, and have it as a part of our essence.
1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us, Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ
Jesus for you. Ephesians 5:20 tells us Giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the
name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Over and over in Scripture we see the importance of being thankful no
matter what the situation. It is easy to be thankful when all is going well and everything seems to be going
your way, but we are called to be just as thankful in the rough and hard times. When we live in the
knowledge that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are
called according to His purpose, as Romans 8:28 tell us, then we can know the full depths of
thankfulness. Let us encourage one another in the good times and the bad times to see how God is working
events for good, and how we might be more thankful for all that is happening.
