1 Introduction
1.1 Position of the BTS3012AE
Huawei BTS3012AE is a type of outdoor macro base station. It features high integration and
excellent performance. The BTS3012AE is mainly suited to networks coverage along tracks
without equipment rooms or where the condition of equipment rooms cannot meet the
requirements of an indoor base station. The BTS3012AE for GSM-R uses double-transceiver
units (DTRU). A BTS3012AE cabinet supports a maximum of 12 TRXs.
1.2.4 Antenna
The BTS3012AE has the following benefits in terms of antenna:
Supports Remote Electric Tilt (RET) antennas
Supports dual polarization antennas. This reduces the number of antennas needed to
cover one cell.
1.2.7 Installation
The BTS3012AE is easy to install. It has the following benefits in terms of installation.
It can be installed on a concrete floor, building roof, or tower.
All the external cables come in through the bottom of the cabinet. A 200 mm high space
is reserved for the cabling, which greatly facilitates maintenance.
Field installation personnel only need to secure the cabinet and install the external
cables.
Simple installation of the hardware and software greatly reduces the installation time and
facilitates fast network deployment.
2 System Architecture
2.1 Physical Architecture
The design of the BTS3012AE cabinet complies with the IEC60297standard. The dimensions
are as follows:
Height: 1,700 mm
Width: 1,000 mm
Depth: 880 mm
Figure 2-1 shows the cabinet layout.
Figure 2-2 shows a fully configured BTS3012AE cabinet with AC power supply.

Figure 2-2 shows a fully configured BTS3012AE, with the combination 150 AH + 7U.
Figure 2-3 shows a fully configured BTS3012AE cabinet with DC power supply.
Figure 2-3 (A) shows a fully configured BTS3012AE cabinet with 48 V DC power
supply.
Figure 2-3 (B) shows a fully configured BTS3012AE cabinet with +24 V DC power
supply.
The BTS3012AE integrates these modules into a cabinet to form a base transceiver station,
which fully complies with outdoor protection standards and can operate independently. Figure
2-4, Figure 2-5, and Figure 2-6 show the functional modules of the BTS3012AE.

Board Function
DTMU Uses active/standby mode.
Supports four E1 inputs by default.
Provides a 10 Mbit/s Ethernet port for terminal maintenance.
Supports eight Boolean alarm inputs and four extended Boolean control
signal outputs.
Supports the external GPS and BITS synchronization clock input.
Board Function
DCCU Inputs and outputs internal signals.
DEMU Monitors environment variables from the smoke, water, temperature,
(configu humidity, infrared, and door sensors in the equipment room.
red for Collects alarm information and reports the alarm information to the DTMU.

only)
DABB Bypasses the E1 cable to the lower-level BTS if upper-level BTS has power
failure in the case that BTSs are cascaded in a chain with upper-level and
lower-level BTS.
Detects E1 failures if the DABB is in the last-level chain topology.
DGPS Provides precise clock sources and timing information for the GSM BTS,
enabling frame synchronization of the BTS in the entire network.
Provides satellite timing information for other equipment.
Monitors its own status and collects the alarm information.

Board Function
DMLU Provides lightning protection for eight external Boolean value inputs
Provides a 2-route RS 485 serial control bus port
DELU Provides lighting protection for 4-route E1 signals
2.2.4 RF Subsystem
The RF subsystem comprises:
RF antenna subsystem
DAFU subsystem
RF transceiver subsystem
Table 2-5 lists the components of each part.
Table 2-6 Modules of the power supply subsystem and their functions
Module Function
DPMU Monitors the PSU (AC), storage batteries, and the internal environment of the
cabinet.
Inputs 6-route external Boolean values and transmits 2-route Boolean values.
PSU Converts the external power into 48 V DC, and then supplies 48 V DC
(AC) power to each BTS3012AE module.
Storage Supplies power to the BTS3012AE if the external power supply (AC mains)
battery fails.
environment variables to the DTMU. The DTMU processes the reported results and then
sends the results to the OMC.
Ensures that the BTS3102AE has an optimum temperature
The heat exchanger raises the temperature of the BTS3012AE and the fans dissipate the
heat in and around it. When the temperature exceeds the threshold, the system generates
alarms.
Redundancy Design
The BTS3012AE has a redundancy design. The key clock bus, control bus, data bus, and the
DTMU modules use a 1+1 backup mode. The BTS3012AE also supports TRX cooperation.
System Monitoring
The BTS3012AE automatically detects and diagnoses faults in the hardware or software and
reports them as alarm indications. It also reports anomalies immediately after detecting
environmental status.
Task Monitoring
When the software is active, the task monitoring function can monitor any possible faults in
the software or hardware. Detected faults are reported. Task status and system anomalies can
also be monitored.
Data Check
The system can perform regular or event-driven checks on data consistency, restore the data
consistency selectively or by preference, and produce related logs and alarms.
3 Application Scenario
The BTS3012AE is an outdoor Macro Base Station. It features strong coverage capabilities
and is tailor-made for coverage of wide areas, especially for the coverage along railway lines
in deep countryside where there is no equipment room available. A typical application
scenario of the BTS3012 AE is shown in Figure 3-1.
