(CMS SCHOOL HEALTH INSPECTION CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM OVERVIEW/BACKGROUND: * School health inspections are required by the state to be conducted annually at a minimum (158 NCAC 18A. 2400) + Inspection results are posted on the state website for public consumption Recently, these scores have been gaining a lot of attention by the public, with an emphasis on schools with a grade lower than a“B” +” Patties affected by health inspection scores include: © Students © School staff o Parents © Public at large © CMS executive staff ©. School board + Health Inspections consist of the following categories: © Water supply Drinking fountains Sanitary sewage disposal Tollet facilities Lavatory facilities Floors, walls & ceilings Storage spaces Lighting and ventilation Dressing rooms and showers Solid waste disposal Premises: miscellaneous + Program Statement Background Information: © Schools that receive a 90 or higher are classified as A © Schools that receive between 80 and 89 are classified as B © School that receive between 70 and 79 are classified as C + PROGRAM OBJECTIVES: © Intermediate Term 2017-2020 * Increase the health scores at CMS Schools with all schools scoring no lower than a"B” + Maintain district average and median scores above 90% with a year to year 1% improvement goal + Implement proactive strategies with internal audits and training aligned to program objectives eo 00000000 | © FY 2020 -2021 Objective * Achieve and sustain “A” health scores at all CMS schools + PROGRAM STRATEGIES AND TACTICS: © Developed and Process Mapped Health Inspection Process ©. Hired former Mecklenburg County Health Inspector and implemented unannounced internal audits © Six Sigma Team achieved certification, and a Health Inspection Improvement Project was implemented FY 16-17. Quarterly updates completed Feb. 2017, April 2017 and July 2017 with baseline, goals and actual results included. ‘© Arestroom sanitary improvement initiative was implemented this year. Proactive inspection based planned replacements of restroom fixtures/faucets with prioritized PM/repairs to be performed by in- house staff. "Renovate restrooms as a deliverable to reopening closed/leased former CMS schools and at existing schools where funding can be accomplished. + Restroom Sanitary Improvement Plan Database * To support plan recommendations, funding decisions, and Prioritization for tasks, a school specific database with supporting metrics is being developed to include the following: ° co00000 ° School (Sq.Ft., # Custodians, Sq.Ft./Custodial) Custodial Area Leader and School Head Custodian School roll-up Facility Condition Index (FCI) Staff/Building utilization capacity (%) Acreage Number mobile classrooms in use Number mobile restrooms in use Number modular units in use Health Inspections scores (2015, 2016, 2017) + Anine (9) school $1,088,711 mobile/modular restroom renovation Project is complete. A Phase II Plan is complete. + Plumbing fixture replacement project at Bruns, Berryhill, Reid Park and Westerly Hills schools is complete ($250,000 + internal labor). * SaniGLAZE Flooring Pilot Projects at four (4) schools is complete. An FY 2017-18 plan is in development. * Atoilet partition replacement project is in development. + A Custodial Services Improvement Initiative has been implemented for FY 2017- 18 which aligns to Health inspection Improvement Strategies.
