Welcome to the Titirangi production of Cinderella 2014.
Of all my panto scripts, this is by far the most regularly performed and has
been seen on every continent except Antarctica (still working on that one).
Adapting it for the bijou space under Lopdell House needed some major
rewriting and cunning scenery design and I hope the solution impresses
(or at least works!)
New to NZ I never planned to do this. I came here to write the
Auckland_based comedy novel Sky Tower, and get it published on Amazon.
Did that. Sorted. Next plan was to produce a series of NZ landscape paint-
ings and get them in local galleries. Did that (upstairs in this building as we
speak; have a look! And also in West Coast Gallery, Piha). Sorted.
Next task: write another book set in NZ and do more paintings BUT sud-
denly I received an urgent request to take over the Titirangi panto follow-
ing the demise of the planned production.
After thirty years of panto production I could not refuse. Books and art can
wait. There is nothing as much fun as a panto rehearsal. You could watch
TV for a month and not laugh out loud once, but, at a panto rehearsal you
laugh until you weep (not necessarily at the jokes).
So will you laugh out loud when you see the show? We all hope so the
actors and crew have put an unbelievable amount of time and energy into
making this entertainment for you. Please reward them with hearty chuck-
les at the very least!
