Theme: The American Dream tends to adapt to each persons views, situation and goals in life

Introduction
(play theme music)
(Plays the MLK Jr Speech audio)
In the video: I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they
will not be judge by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.

Kylie: Martin Luther King Jr. had an American Dream just like everyone else. Yet, today, to an
American, Martin Luther King Jr.s dream might not be exactly like yours, but similar.

Adrian: If your dream is to have a stable financial income, have a place to live, have friends and
family or even all of the above then you have an American Dream.

Josh: The American Dream tends to adapt to each persons views, situations, and goals in life.

Body -Clear transition
Kylie: We started off by interviewing family members and friends to take a glimpse at their -Interview clips
-Research data
opinions of what the American Dream is. First, we asked Dan Sullivan, a 71 year old -Explain how it connects back to the overall
grandfather who lives in Syracuse, New York about what he thinks the American Dream is all topic/theme
about. (2-4 MINUTES)

(Plays Dans Audio File Script)

(Dan) The American Dream, to me its doing things that are good for you, your health,
and by choosing the right path to follow throughout your lifespan, and making good of any and
all opportunities.
Kylie: Dan has a very positive view of the American Dream. He believes its about making
favorable decisions that will benefit you, as well as others.

Adrian: I interviewed Rob Onyenwoke who is in his late 30s and of Nigerian descent. I asked
him what his own personal version of the American Dream was, and this was his answer.
(Plays Robs Audio File Script)
My American dream, I already have a family, so I hope to be able to raise my kids well
and that they can succeed possibly more so than me.. Thats one and just below that is success
at work... being able to achieve some success at this profession, being a professor and to get
ultimately get promoted, just do well and achieve so combination of family success and personal
success will pretty much define it for me.
Adrian: In Robs American Dream, his ultimate goal is to have a family more successful than
himself and personal success. Everyday, everything Rob does is progress towards achieving
his American Dream, thats what drives him to wake up in the morning.

Jami: Kezty Pagoada-Rodriguez is a 15 year old Hispanic who is proud to come from latin
descent. She has lived in the U.S. her entire life but still struggles with discrimination.
(Plays Keztys Audio File Script)
(Jami) Have you achieved your American dream?
(Kezty) No, I have not. But I am really striving for it.
(Jami) Do you think being as young as you are, and having the, like your entire life
ahead of you, your American dream will change at all?
(Kezty) I think maybe, in some aspects. Right now my dream is to have a really big
family. And have a little farm in my house basically. But I guess in the future obviously I might
not have the means to do that. So I think maybe small things like not being able to have a big
house. In general my American dream will probably stay the same.
Jami: As you can tell she doesnt let discrimination affect her and her views on the American
Dream. She has a positive outlook on the rest of her life and achieving her dream.

Josh The last person we talked to was Priyanka Lakhe who is a 31 year old Indian woman who
has traveled around the world and experienced many cultures. She has plenty of advice to
share since she usually gives similar advice to her younger sister.
(Plays Priyankas Audio File Script)
(Josh) What have you learned about the American Dream from your personal
experiences, and what would you say to someone graduating from high school next year?
(Priyanka) One thing I would say for sure is that, I feel like Im at a little bit of an
advantage because my parents traveled a lot when I was young. So having those travel
experiences, having those cultural experiences, not just in the country youre growing up in, but
other countries, even if its just for visiting sakes is really important. So travel, travel a lot if you
have the chance, the opportunity to travel just by yourself, with your parents, with your friends,
girlfriends, boyfriends, spouses, whatever. Itll help you figure out what you might want to do, or
even sometimes it works the other way where it helps you figure out what you dont want to do.
Josh: Priyankas advice is helpful for anyone who hasnt truly figured out what they want to do
with their future. Different cultures and experiences can alter your views and change your
personal American Dream. Learning about other countries can help you respect the country we
live in.

Conclusion -Analysis of the AD
Jami: The goal of this podcast was to try to get you thinking about your American Dream and -Synthesize and draw conclusions to the questions
-Give credit
what it means to you. Our views and our interviewees views were mostly positive. The main -Theme song/music
theme among the interviews was that the American Dream adapts to each persons goals and (1-2 MINUTES)
desires. All four of us conducted three interviews asking them four questions.

Adrian: Based on the question, What is your definition of the American Dream? all of the
interviews we did, we picked the best answer for the question. Dans answer was similar to what
everyone else said, but he summed up the idea of the American dream very well. The American
Dream is about picking a path to follow and keeping up with it.

Josh: The second question was Was is your own personal American Dream? Everyone had a
different answer so we couldnt pick one person who summarized all the answers. Everyone
had a central idea of what it was. But we thought Rob had the most in depth answer. He stated
that his dream was to provide for his family and be able to raise his kids so that they would be
successful in the future.

Kylie: Kezty had a lot of interesting answers for all of the questions but we chose the third
question for her, which was Have you achieved your American Dream? Due to her age she
hasnt, but she is still working on it. She has had to adapt to the diversity she has been through
but hasnt let it change her dream at all.

Jami: Priyanka has had many experiences in her life, which made her a good candidate. The
question was What have you learned from your experiences and what would you tell a
highschool student who is graduating? Given that she has had many chances to travel she
believes that it is a really important thing for everyone to do. She just wants people to live their
lives and dont miss out.

Adrian: I hope you enjoyed our podcast and we hope it gets you thinking about your American
Dream.
