REMINDERS AND NEW EVENTS

SOFA Seminars at Sun City Anthem


The Society for Financial Awareness (SOFA) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, educational speaker’s
bureau, comprised of various professionals (financial, tax, real estate, mortgage, wellness,
and estate planning) to provide overall financial education to various individuals and
organizations. Through workshops and seminars, SOFA introduces keys to a successful and
wealthy future. Workshops also help people to become aware of risk management, investment
opportunities, and tax savings. Each workshop is customized to assist individuals in
identifying and qualifying his/her personal and family financial planning needs. All education
programs are available at NO CHARGE to corporate and community groups for the
advancement of financial education.

The first seminar will be held on: Thursday, September 16, 2010 between 10:00am – 11:00am
in the SCA Classroom.

• Basic principles of cash management
• Accumulating wealth
• Locating & maximizing discretionary income
• The importance of having a financial blueprint
• Roadblocks to financial success

Labor Day Hours of Operation for Union Center


Please note that the Union Center hours of operation on Labor Day, Monday, September 6th,
2010, will be between 10:00am - 6:00pm.

Hoe Down & Chili Cook-Off!


Register early for our annual Hoe Down and chili cook-off contest to be held on Saturday,
September 18th at 6:00pm! Those who participate in the cook-off get in free to the event. One
person free per entry. Chili tasting will begin at 6:00pm. Vote for your favorite chili! Cook-Off
entry forms can be obtained at the Front Desk starting September 11th. Dinner is at 6:30pm.
The cost is $7 per person and includes chili dinner with salad, corn bread, cookies, iced tea,
lemonade and pitchers of iced water with lemon. BYOB. DJ Carole will be back to help you
dance the night away!

Portal Training: At 2:00pm in the Classroom, come and learn how to navigate through our
portal. It’s FREE!

THURSDAY, AUGUST 26th

Happy Hour & Wii Bowling: Between 4:00pm – 6:00pm, come and meet your new
neighbors and mingle with other residents in the Ballroom. Cash Bar. Snacks will be provided.

Dinner & Movie: Valentine’s Day: The cost is $7 and includes 2 slices from a variety of
pizzas (including thin crust) from Barro’s (special dietary needs available on request - Call
Teresa 520-723-6614), salad, choice of a variety of salad dressings, a basket of popcorn, soda,
candy (healthy choices available) and pitchers of iced water with lemon. Dinner is at 6:00pm.
Movie starts at 6:30pm. RSVP by Wednesday, August 25th.

THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 2nd

Classic Movie Night! Gone With the Wind: We will have a special showing of one of the
greatest films of all time, Gone With the Wind, winner of 10 Academy Awards, a record that
stood for 20 years. Based on Margaret Mitchell’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel of 1936, it tells
the tale of Georgian Scarlett O’Hara (Vivien Leigh), from immediately preceding the American
Civil War through the Reconstruction Era. Gone With the Wind is the highest grossing film in
the United States than any other film in history and is considered one of the most enduring
symbols of the golden age of Hollywood. Join us for an evening of classic entertainment! The
cost is $5 and includes a hotdog, basket of french fries, soda, basket of popcorn, candy
(healthy choices available) and pitchers of iced water with lemon. Come and pick up your food
by 5:00pm. Movie will begin at 5:10pm. Eat while you watch the movie! There will be a 15-
minute intermission at 7:00pm. RSVP by Wednesday, September 1st.

FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 3rd

Karaoke Night: At 6:00pm in the Ballroom, come sing along with your friends and
neighbors! Feel free to bring your own drinks and appetizers! It’s FREE!

SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 4th

FREE Labor Day Weekend Concert in the Park! You are your family are invited to attend
a FREE concert in the park for Anthem residents only at the Anthem Community Park
Amphitheater between 6:00pm – 9:00pm, featuring LIVE MUSIC by The Slim Pickens Band! An
inflatable bounce house and obstacle course will be available for the kids and tweens. Snacks
available for purchase: kettle corn, freshly squeezed lemonade and water, and snow cones.
Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy an outdoor concert right here in your community! Don’t miss

NEW! Bocce Club


Interested in Bocce Ball? Leagues are forming for Thursdays at 10:00am, 1:00pm and 6:00pm,
and Fridays at 10:00am, 1:00pm and 6:00pm, commencing October 2010. Get your application

Classy Glass: Glass Fusion


Glass fusing classes will resume in November. The Classy Glass Winter Dance will be held on
Saturday, December 11th. More information to come!

SCATS: Murder
Murder Mystery Dinner Theater
Madame Iggy invites you to join your fellow outlaws at Gibby’s Saloon and her brothel “Miss
Iggy’s” on Wednesday, November 17th (Time: TBD). You know, the best little bunny house in
Florence, AZ. Your mission is to solve a murder (or two) and enjoy a great meal. The cost will
be $15 per person and tickets will be available beginning October. Space is limited to 100
people, so watch for the exact details to come in September!

Fiber / Textile Arts Club


This club will hold a Fashion Show: Bubbles & Chocolate on Sunday November 14th between
1:00pm – 4:00pm in the Ballroom. Stay tuned for more information! Questions: 520-233-6661

Wine Group Meeting


Due to the Union Center closing early on August 19th, please note that the Wine Club will meet
on Wednesday, August 18th between 6:00pm – 8:00pm in the Ballroom.

The Tea and Fashion Show will be held on Saturday, March 26th. More info to come!

Clay Crafters
Empty Bowls Event / Florence Food Bank Charity will be held on Saturday, February 19th.
