Jule Styne:

Born Julius Kerwin Stein in London, England.
Family moved to America when he was 8.
Played piano at a very young age, performing with the Chicago, St. Louis, and Detroit
Symphonies by age 10.
Got into popular music by working with Jazz bands in Chicago in the 1920s
Vocal coach in 1930s for 20th Century Fox
Addicted to gambling
Wrote with Sammy Cahn (lyricist) had songs on the hit parade: Three Coins in the
Fountain (won an Oscar) also together they wrote, Let it Snow, Let it Snow, Let it
Snow.
1947 he wrote his first Broadway score with Sammy Cahn on lyrics: High Button Shoes
1949 Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (starring Carol Channing, later a film with Marilyn
Monroe)
1951 Two on the Aisle (lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green)
