Network Architectures

The configuration of computers, devices, and media

on a network
is sometimes called the network
architecture. Two examples of network
architectures are client/server and peer-to-peer.
client/server network, A computer network in which
one centralized, powerful computer (called the server)
is a hub to which many less powerful personal
computers or workstations (called clients) are
connected.
A server, sometimes
called a host computer, controls
access to the hardware, software,
and other resources on the
network and provides a
centralized
storage area for programs, data,
and information.

The clients are other

computers and mobile devices
on the network that rely
on the server for its resources.
A peer-to-peer (P2P) network is a simple, inexpensive
network architecture that typically connects fewer than
10 computers.

Each computer or mobile

device, called a peer, has
equal responsibilities and
capabilities, sharing
hardware (such as a
printer), data, or
information with other
computers and mobile
devices on the peer-to-
peer network.
Communications
Software
Communications software consists of programs and apps
that;
(1) help users establish a connection to another
computer, mobile device, or network

(2) manage the transmission of data, instructions, and

information; and

(3) provide an interface for users to communicate with

one another.
Mobile Communications

refers to a form of communications which does not

depend on a physical connection between the sender
and receiver and who may move from one physical
location to another during communication.
Text, picture, and video messaging

Text, picture, and video messages often take

the place of phone conversations among many people, who
find exchanging these messages to be less intrusive and more
efficient than voice conversations.
SMS (short message service) text messages are messages of
300 or fewer characters sent from one user to another
through a mobile service providers cell phone tower

MMS (multimedia message service), users also can send and

receive photos, videos, and audio files.
Internet Messaging

With Internet messaging services, you can send text or

media messages in real time to other online users.

To access an Internet messaging service, you need the

services desktop, web, or mobile app, and an Internet
connection on your computer or mobile device.
Voice and Video Calling

VoIP services
is a methodology and group of technologies for the
delivery of voice communications and multimedia
sessions over Internet Protocol (IP) networks, such as the
Internet.
such as Skype and FaceTime, also provide voice and video
calling services over the Internet.
These often are muchless expensive than making phone
calls over a mobile service providers network.
It also is possible to make calls from a VoIP program to a
mobile or landline phone. Voice and video calling require
large amounts of bandwidth.
Data Plans

Your mobile devices data plan enables you to access the Internet
through your mobile service providers network when Wi-Fi is
not available.
