Sub theme: Ethnic divide and trust deficit in contemporary as outcome of Indias appeasement policy Impact of conflict management and academic insecurity in Indias northeast; Revisiting on the responsibility of stakeholders for academic free-zone; NSational eminar Contemporary issues that fuel tussle on different ethnic groups There is a political impasse in Manipur, though the Indian State prefers to use the expression, law and order to describe the never ending conflict situation. The tiny state, more than any other states of the Northeast India, has been experiencing one of the longest armed movements in South Asia. As a result, there has been a situation of political impasse between the armed opposition groups demanding independence from THE REPERCUSSION OF CONFLICT India and the Indian State. This has resulted to violation of human rights, loss of lives, property and destruction of human security itself. The ethnic relationship between the MANAGEMENT: STATE OF PANDEMONIUM Meiteis residing in the valley areas and the Nagas living in the hills has deteriorated after the June 2001 turmoil in the State following the Union governments decision to extend AND ACADEMIC UNCERTAINTY the area of ceasefire with NSCN-IM as without territorial limits. The United Naga Council (UNC) in the State made clear that they would like to be part of a Greater Nagaland as demanded by the NSCN-IM; for the Meiteis and other ethnic groups, this became a question of defending their territory. This divide has its impact on the political set up in the State, including a realignment in the political parties, the electioneering 20 & 21 November process and, possibly, on the outcome of the polls. As a new strategy NSCN-IM has gradually entered in the state politics directly or indirectly by condemning Delhis delaying tactics. On the other hand GoI has golden opportunity when they (IM) arrive in Sponsored by University Grants Commission 2017 state politics in one sense. The political leadership takes great interest in inspecting big construction projects and working hard to ensure that such projects are completed on time. Thus the centre appears to take keen interest and actively encourages the present practice of lifeless construction as development, ignor-ing education and other basic necessities of the people in the state. And it seems to neglect the deteriorating and fragile state of education in the state. The only interventions by the government in the education sector are the construction or renovation of buildings of the government educational institutions, recruitment and posting/transfer of teachers. Little attention is paid to Organised by infrastructure and other essential needs and facilities in these institutions. Education, thus, has been devalued by the government leadership for several decades. Manipur is Human Rights Studies Centre at present driven by the power of might, force, gun and money without the rule of law. S. Kula Womens College There is scant regard for education and no respect for human rights and basic needs of Nambol, Manipur the people. What has happened to all that now? It is worth to note that, when there In Collaboration with was a situation where students out of institution for 3 months continuously were there Social Welfare and Development Centre, Imphal due to band by some orgainsations, no one had said altruistic comment. Besides it seems to consider the predominant nature of armed conflict.
