Learning Production at Legacy Worldwide

Alex B.

For my Junior Fellowship Experience I worked at the Christian media agency Legacy Worldwide. My mentor was

Jose Ferrell, the technical director of production. Over the course of the internship my main responsibility was to

assist my mentor with his tasks, and these tasks included filming clients, recording audio, flipping sets, moving

props, and painting. On top of that responsibility, there were also times where I needed to shadow people in the

office in order to learn about their responsibilities, and I mostly did this in the editing department. The hard skill

learning outcomes were that I learned how to use production cameras and how to better use Adobe products, and the

soft skill learning outcomes were that I learned how to communicate with a variety of different people. The

equipment that I had to utilize at the internship included professional production cameras, boom microphones, and

portable audio devices. Alongside those, I also had to learn how to use software that managed and edited audio. This

internship provided me with a wonderful experience where I learned many skills that can be applied to my future

goals and I am grateful that I was able to participate in it.

Move on When Ready Program at Gwinnett Technical College

Austin B.

I had the pleasure of participating in the Move on When Ready program at Gwinnett Technical College. At

Gwinnett Technical College I was a part of a cohort of students participating in a cyber security pathway, which is a

series of courses that must be taken for completion, at the end of which a cybersecurity specialist certification is

awarded. The pathway is setup as follows: two classes every semester for three semesters starting in the summer of

the year 2017. The courses that I participated in this semester were CIST 1001- Computer Concepts, taught by

Albena Asenova-Belal, and CIST 1122- Hardware Installation & Maintenance, taught by Tony Tran. I mainly had

the responsibilities of a student, such as reporting for class, participating in class discussions, and completing the

work assigned for outside of class. Both classes were primarily computer based with a little reading, so for online

homework and projects, I was able to utilize software such as Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, along with a variety

of online coding websites. All in all, this was an amazing summer experience and I cannot wait to continue it in the

fall with my next set of classes.

Move on When Ready (MOWR) at Gwinnett Technical College

Carlos G.
For my internship, I partook in classes at Gwinnett Tech as part of a program called Move on When Ready

(MOWR). The course is essentially dual-enrollment with the classes you take going towards your high school

transcript while also being able to count as college credits. My courses were part of the Cybersecurity major with

CIST 1001 Computer Concepts and CIST 1122 Hardware Install and Maintenance. Instead of mentors, we had

professors. Because it was also a college course, we had the responsibilities of regular college students such as

having to complete our homework, perform well in quizzes, and study for the course materials. The classes were a

hybrid between the classroom setting and online portion so the most important device for us was the laptops

provided by GSMST. The classes allowed me to learn plenty about computers that I previously did not know, such

as their components and how to repair them, while also enhancing my skill on group work with the projects we did.

The experience was great and I cannot wait to continue the cyber security major in the fall semester.

Move on When Ready Classes at Gwinnett Technical College

Desmond D.

Over the course of the summer, I had the privilege of taking Computer Concepts and Computer Hardware classes at

Gwinnett Technical College. These two classes were the entry level classes for Gwinnett Technical Colleges Cyber

Security Pathway. Each week of these eight-week long classes, I prepared for class by reading the chapters that

would be covered in the class lecture and completing the twenty to thirty question homework assignment at the end

of each chapter. After class, I was required to take a quiz on the chapters that were covered in class. During class,

there also labs that needed to be completed before I could leave. These labs taught me skills such as how to install

physical and software components on a laptop. I also learned to map a printer to a computer and check the internet

connections to the computer. This program helped me work with different types of people to complete a task, as

there were a variety of ages and work ethics in the class room. Going forward, I plan on continuing to continue the

cyber security course with Gwinnett Technical College and earn my an associates degree.

Move on When Ready Game Development Course at Gwinnett Technical College

Ethan K.

I took the CIST 1001 and CIST 1035 courses in the Gwinnett Technical College Busbee Building (700). My primary

duties and responsibilities were to show up for classes, do my work, and pass the tests. One main accomplishment I

gained from this experience was getting high As on two college courses. Some hard skills I gained from this

experience was advanced usage of Microsoft Office Suite and advanced usage of video editing software (DaVinci
Resolve). Some soft skills I acquired was creativity, diligence, and team work. I mainly utilized my computer along

with Microsoft Office Suite and DaVinci Resolve throughout my classes. I attended a Technology Association of

Georgia meet-up discussing artificial intelligence and statistical analysis. I met some scientists from private, small,

but advanced companies that were developing usage for statistical analysis. Although my experience mostly

pertained the computer science field and I found many of the things interesting, this internship made me realize that

I would rather be at a different internship where I could engage more.

Technical Documentation and Marketing at FocalPointK12

Fotih K.

This past summer, I interned at FocalPointK12 with Naman Luthra. FocalPoint is a company that provides school

districts with a system for assessments, educational resources, data analysis, and a learning management system. My

mentor was Dr. Nathan Buhl, the Chief Academic Officer. Three of my main responsibilities included finding

contact information for school districts that were potential clients; testing the software as to find bugs and provide

feedback; and creating a quick-start guide for clients to use with the software. I mostly learned soft skills during my

internship, such as professional communication, workplace etiquette, and critical observation, as well as a few hard

skills, such as technical documentation and marketing skills. I only used FocalPoints online software to do work.

Alongside these responsibilities, I was able to sit in for a presentation/demo of the software that Dr. Buhl did for a

potential client in California, and it was the main source of the marketing skills that I learned. All in all, my

experience at FocalPointK12 was very enjoyable. It taught me a lot about the world outside of schooling, and gave

me a foundation for what I may want to do for Fomy Senior Capstone Experience and in my future.

Teaching Students Valuable Coding Languages at Kids4Coding

Harsha K.

My internship was at Kids4Coding (Gwinnett Tech location), and my mentor was Natalie Knight (camp manager)

and AnnMarie Laramee (CEO of Kids4Coding). Before the start of the internship, I went to a training session in

which I learned the schedule, location of the classroom, and rules of Kids4Coding. At my internship, I unpacked and

distributed computers in the morning and packed computers in the afternoon. During class time, I answered

students questions about the lessons and assisted the teacher when they need help. I used numerous applications

such as Python, HTML, JavaScript, Sketchup, and RPG Maker. As a result, I learned numerous hard skills such as

increased knowledge in these computer applications and knowledge about the different brands of computers such as
HP and Lenovo computers. On the other hand, I developed lots of soft skills such as time management,

communication skills, and problem-solving skills by unpacking and packing the computer, talking to the students

parents, and debugging the code. At the end of the internship, I had fun teaching and learned a lot. As a result, I

would like to work here next summer.

Gwinnett Technical College Cyber Security Specialist Program

Jae J.

I participated in the Move on When Ready Cyber Security Specialist Program at Gwinnett Technical College

(GTC). The instructors of my Computer Concepts and Hardware Installation and Maintenance classes were

Professor Belal and Professor Tran, respectively. These Summer semester classes acted as the IT fundamental part

of the Cyber Security Program. I established a great foundation of Information Technology, which I will utilize

when I pursue my IT careers. Because my JFE is a studying experience, I had to handle 7 to 8 hours of study hours

weekly. In addition, I had to read two textbooks from cover to cover to pass the final exams. By taking these classes,

I learned numerous industrial hardware and software skills, developed more patience, and could manage my time

even more effectively. Throughout the semester, I utilized two tools hardware and software tools. Professor Tran

recommended buying a professional PC tool kit for computer disassembly; when we were learning about operating

systems, we used a virtual machine a program which allows you to have two operating systems on one computer.

Overall, this studying experience provided me an excellent insight into the IT field, including Cyber Security.

Learning About Stock Uses and Methodologies at Taylor Frres

Sean E.

I interned at an investment banking firm called Taylor Frres in Buckhead, Georgia. I was working on an

independent project under the guidance of my mentor, Michelle Gu, a financial analyst at the Taylor Frres office

in Atlanta. My duties and responsibilities were centered on working on my tasks for the day that would be assigned

by my mentor: research, plotting graphs, analyzing graphs, and coming up with a way to communicate my findings

to someone who may not understand the procedures I am using. From my experience I learned the basic aspects of

what affects stocks and how to interpret their fluctuations, and I also used Microsoft Excel to graph stock closing

prices. Then I would analyze the findings from the graphs and create a way to accurately communicate my findings

to someone. Along with Microsoft Excel, I used the internet to conduct research to learn about the companies and

stocks I was using. This experience threw me into the deep end with learning an application of mathematics and the

importance of being able to either write or talk about my findings from research.

Videography with Camp All-American

Tiffany H.
This summer, I partook in an internship at Camp All-American with the production crew; my mentor was Tyler

Trump, a film student at Georgia State University. At this summer camp, a recap video highlighting the weeks

activities is shown every Friday. My main responsibility, therefore, was to gather footage of the campers doing

things like zip-lining and swimming. Initially, I filmed with the sole producer of the video, but I was responsible for

working alone when she was absent. I was fortunate enough to be using high-grade equipment, as my mentor let me

use his personal camera (Cannon 6D) and lenses (e.g. 24mm and 50mm). I learned a lot about videography, as my

mentor made sure to teach me every step of the way. Furthermore, I also improved on interpersonal skills including

listening and tolerance when working with children. My other tasks included editing videos and filming skits.

Editing was done in Adobe Premiere, a program I was accustomed to; filming skits was similar to what I have done

for school. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my internship, as I gained a plethora of experience in a fun environment

where everyone was inviting and interested in what I was doing.
