Ancient Egypt
Class and Stage: Year 7, Stage 4. Classroom R.G.20 10-11am.

Due Date: Term 2 Week 3, Thursday.

Weighting: %30

Type of Task Undertaken: This assessment will be an oral task. A 2 minute speech that
highlights a depth of knowledge on the case study of this unit.

Class Context: This class has been developing a complete picture of the ancient society of
Egypt. This study has ranged from various source areas such as religion, funerary customs, as
well as, the everyday life and social structure of the people of Ancient Egypt. All of this
background knowledge has been focused in the last few weeks on a case study on Hatshepsut,
the female pharaoh. Many aspects of her significant impacts on Egyptian society stem from
the background knowledge acquired during the beginning of this course. Paired with the
knowledge of primary source analysis, this task will synthesise these ideas to demonstrate the
extent of Hatshepsuts significance to our study of ancient Egypt using a primary source of
your choosing.

Description of Task:

You are to prepare a 2-3 minute speech

Working individually, research and find a primary source. Describe how this
source shows the impact of Hatshepsut on the Egyptian Society.
The task will focus on how you describe the source and its link to Hatshepsut as

Tips and Tricks:

Finding sources is not a daunting task, remember primary sources are any source that
directly shows evidence of the time period or argument.
Images also count as primary sources, if you use it of a statue, hieroglyph painting or
inscriptions as long as it connects to Hatshepsut and you can describe what it shows.
Dont forget we have covered her impacts in class, this task is not to find new content
but to describe a source and how it relates to Hatshepsut.
We will be spending a class on this together but make sure that by that point you
already have a source and have started looking at it.
Look at your advanced organiser for the topics we have covered they should help
guide your description as well.

PRACTICE YOUR SPEECH!

USE PALM CARDS AS A GUIDE, DONT READ FROM THEM!

These two tips are the difference between a good presentation and a poor one. This
task has as much to do with how you present it as what is in it.

ABOVE ALL DONT PANIC!!!
