Chapter I: INTRODUCTION

1.0 Project Context

We use energy every day of our lives - our electronic devices require electricity for
power, our streetlights need the same for lighting, our vehicles require gasoline and
diesel. We fuel our homes with domestic oil, propane or electricity from a national or
local grid for lighting, heating and for powering our devices. But the world is doing what
it can to reduce carbon emissions and limit the global average temperature change.

The presence of this project describes how the electrolysis of water to generate
hydrogen and can be used in conjunction with renewable energy sources to provide a
number of benefits. It then looks at how electrolysis has been applied in the past and its
applicability to, and suitability for, energy use. One of the chief advantages of electrolysis
is that it can be applied at a great range of scales. The most exciting aspects of the
technology currently is its emergence as a candidate for largescale renewable energy
storage without a doubt one of the biggest challenges facing society in its efforts to move
away from fossil fuels due to the negative effect of the environment.

The most exciting aspects of the technology currently is its emergence as a

candidate for largescale renewable energy storage without a doubt one of the biggest
challenges facing society in its efforts to move away from fossil fuels. Many nations
support an increased contribution from wind and solar power, which are difficult to
harness but potentially unlimited, unlike bioenergy.

However, these sources provide a variable output which is difficult for the
electricity grid to accept while maintaining its stability, and this place a real and
fundamental limit on how much of this energy can currently be incorporated into the
supply. This limit can be circumvented if we use some techniques of using the byproduct
of our energy source. And also, if the renewable energy can be stored at times of excess
production, buffering the effect of variability on the grid and providing a more
predictable supply. But energy storage at the scale needed for a global shift away from
carbon is a significant technological challenge that cannot be satisfactorily met with

existing technology. As this report describes, using clean electricity to drive water
electrolysis and produce hydrogen in large quantities as an energy storage medium is in
fact one of the most viable options available to us.

1.1 Purpose and Description

The study is focused in using water as a source of energy through the design and
development of the system that can provide us an energy.

The study main reason of existence is to provide an effective alternative way for
producing energy without any negative impact of environment but to benefit the society
for attainable & accessible power resource considering that technology plays an
important role in all aspects of the world. With the system provide environmental-
friendly and effective system provides data of every process in input up to the output.

1.3 Objective of the Study

The design and development of Thermoelectric-Steam Power Generator using

Electrolysis aims to provide a system that can operate and produce power even the
weather condition changes where it is usable and accessible in any type of area (isolated
or non-isolated area) and are made of local materials.

1.4 Significance of the Study

This study will be a significant endeavor in promoting the water as an effective
alternative source of energy and motivation for other researchers to study and innovate
the concept of water to provide an unlimited source of energy in humanity in future. This
study will also be beneficial to the environment, community or the society. For an easy
and abundant source of energy that have no negative effect nor impact to the ecosystem

This system can provide an adequate power supply most especially in a remote
community that are enough for in daily living without relying on the power provider.
And Communities in a remote area that has no powerline can acquired power by this
system as long as there is a supply of water.

1.5 Scope and Limitation

This system operates through electrolysis that produce hydrogen and hydrogen
used to power the steam drive generator and use the thermal to produce electricity. It has
the ability to display information in LCD (on how much voltage and current produce in
DC, the level of the tank, the level of the battery you charge). And for safety proposes
the system has a gas leakage sensor that automatically shut down when theres any gas
leakage and also a manual over drive in case of emergency.

But it is difficult to generate the quantities of electricity that are as large as those
produced by traditional fossil fuel generator. This may mean that we need to simply build
more energy facilities. But also, this energy relies only in water as the source of power.
If your place is limited in water then this system is useless.
