INTRODUCTION
The inspection activity has been carried out in a Lubricants & Greases Company,
located in Sharjah, UAE which is mainly involved in the manufacturing of oil and greases and
complying with occupational health and safety regulations. The activities being carried out in day to
day operations include material handling, packing , blending oil, loading cartoons.
The scope of inspection was to identify any potential hazards, to check the
effectiveness of existing control measures and recommend any further control measure to ensure
that residual risk are as low as possible and harmless. All the findings which I recorded are attached
to the observation sheets.
Executive Summary
The management of company is highly committed to safeguard its employees, visitors, contractor
and all stakeholders from the hazards arising out of its daily operations. This responsibility is clearly
dedicated to competent personnel. Risk assessment of all the activities has been done and is
reviewed periodically. Resources have been allocated for mitigation of significant hazards through
effective controls. PPE programs is in place and requirements are communicated to workforce
through trainings, posters and signs. Overall compliance with health and safety management system
is observed satisfactory.

There are some potential hazards and conditions are evaluated at this facility completion of the
following items will help lower both the frequency and severity of losses in terms of personnel
injury, illness, asset damage and business reputation.

Personnel protective equipment # 8, 16 few workers in blending activity of oil are observed to be
working without wearing respiratory mask, one of the workers in production area is observed to be
handling the Capping Machine without wearing ear muff. Although the program for PPE is in place
and PPEs are available however implementation is partial to some extent due to lack of supervision.
Recommendation:
All the workers who have to follow the PPEs protocols must be trained on the hazards associated.
With their assigned jobs, why the PPE recommendation and how they will prevent them from
hazards. After their induction disciplinary action should be taken against the worker who violates the
PPEs protocols.
Trailing cables due to insufficient power outlets, combustible materials storied the waste storage area
due to lack of inadequate supervision.
Recommendations
Power outlets/sockets and industrials plugs to be procured as per requirements and fitted where
required. Competent supervision must be ensured to arrange frequent inspections.
Legislation: UAE electricity rules, failure to comply with these regulations, or any part thereof, shall
be deemed as contrary to the Law. Such failures will be addressed in accordance with the Law under
Article 65(5) (notices served by the Bureau), Article 66 (failure to comply) and Article 135 (offences
and fines).
Few of the loaders are observed to be lifting the raw materials cartons in unsafe manners and few of
the data entry operators complained about the backache and insufficient lighting the shows
inadequate controls to reduce the WRULD dieases.
Recommendation:
A survey to be conducted to address the WRULD in terms workstation designs, material handling
practices, product flow and handling. Refresher trainings should be arranged for all the personnel
involved in material handling and working on monitoring devices handling computer and laptops.
CONCLUSION
All the significant hazards are identified plus control measures in a time frame scale.
The management, if willing to take action will benefit to health and safety. As it will increase level of
compliance of workers to health and safety rules and reduce result of injury and accident. It will also
bring more commitment of organization which result a positive safety culture and reduce legal
action by enforcing authorities and reduce compensation claims and can provide more safe
production of the organization in addition the business reputation will be on the top and it is one of
the factor to consider granting more projects to company in the business today. As more projects
will come the more business will grow and when it grows the company will become more famous in
market
There are certain areas where inadequate supervision is observed that is alarming for the health &
safety culture of the organization. Competence levels of the supervisory staff needs to be improved
through internal as well as external trainings so that they might be able to identify each potential
hazards assesses the associated risk. Although induction for new joiners is in place but even then it is
not covering the technical aspects of their job. Hazards related to their assigned tasks, hierarchy
followed to take the control measure and use of any PPE ( if applicable) must be the part of their
induction.
Finally management must establish the SMART objectives for the measurement of performance and
review them time to time this all initiatives will help to mature the safety culture with in the
organization and will enhance the business reputation.
