RESOURCE DESCRIPTION
Give a brief description of the technology/resource.

Popplet is a website that allows students to collaborate on concept maps. Its perfect for streamlining complex content, and
organizes thoughts very well. Its simple to use and accessible to almost any age. Images from online or your own computer can
be added, and you can even draw inside the concept bubbles, called popples. Each popple can be dragged around the screen
and can be attached on all four sides. The fonts can be larger or smaller and the popple itself can change its color depending on
the users preference. Each popple has the editors name at the top, so everyone who reads the popplet will know who added
what content.

INTEGRATION IDEA - COLLABORATION

How might you integrate this resource in a lesson plan to promote collaboration among students in your classroom, or among
students and others outside of the classroom?

This technology is very simple to use but can be a powerful learning tool when done well. Its perfect for organizing thoughts or
concepts in an easily accessible platform. I can see Popplet as a perfect tool for 3 rd grade and up, and no subject is off limits.
Students could design concept maps for a book they have read or when learning about the human body. Its a perfect way to
quickly summarize key points in a lecture as well. Teachers can share the beginning of the maps to show students how to properly
take notes, then allow the students to continue the maps on their own. Popplet is also perfect to help students catch up on
material they may have missed when absent. Students can work together when putting together a brief presentation of their
ideas as well because they can share what theyve written so far with one another, and teachers can review who did what work
by looking at the names on top of each added popple, or content bubble. This helps teachers evaluate the amount of time and
effort each student contributed to the entire project.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION
Based on the value-added rating scale above, how would you rate the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource?
Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

Popplet should be categorized as a 2 on the value scale, because it can be used by both the student and teachers, but isnt
essential for a lesson to occur. It could be well-integrated into a lesson, but there are other platforms that can be used. It allows
students to put their thoughts out into something more tangible, and can be used to supplement student learning by organizing
their thought process. Teachers can show it during a lecture or students can create their own individually during a lesson to really
engage themselves with the content and review the concepts. It makes for a great study tool.
