PRECOMMISSIONING CHECKS in Major Process Fans

Check that inlet dampers close and open fully and actuate smoothly. Check that
louvers open to correctly direct gas flow to the fan impeller. Dampers installed
backwards will cause a significant decrease in performance and high power draw.
For mill systems with two raw mill ID fans, ensure that for the same output from the
DCS, both fan dampers open to the same position.

The fan housing must be clear of all debris and the fan housing completely sealed.

Shipping stiffeners in the fan housing must be removed.

Check the clearance between the inlet cone and the fan wheel. At no point in the
rotation should the wheel touch the inlet cone. Excessive clearances will adversely
affect the fan efficiency. Measure and record these clearances for future reference.

Check the bearings for proper type of lubrication and level.

Check the expansion joints for proper construction, removal of shipping straps and
proper sealing.

Locate and install if necessary the following measuring ports for pressure
measurements; after the inlet damper, before the inlet damper, and at the fan outlet.
