The Cake and The Small Ants

The mouse was nibbling the cake left over by some picnickers when the cat came over
and said the cake was his. The mouse stopped and argued with the cat.

The duck walked past, saw the cake and said, Thats my cake. Then came along the
chicken, followed by the lamb. All of them said that the cake belonged to them. While they were
quarrelling, an army of ants carried the cake away.

wheres my cake? the mouse screamed. You took my cake! the mouse said to the
cat. The cat turned to the duck and called him a thief. The animals had a big fight over the big
cake.

In the meantime, the ants had taken the cake to their hiding place and were enjoying the
cake. Yummy! Isnt this cake a real treat? one ant asked. Hearing The question, all of the other
ants burst out laughing.

Analysis

1. Difficult word
- Nibble = (v) Take a small bites of something
- Quarrel = (n) Angry argument
- Burst = (v) Break open or apart,especially because of pressure from inside

a. Over and offer have the similar pronunciation.

b. Lamb, lamp and lame have the similar pronunciation.
Lamb /lm/ = Young sheep.
Lamp /lmp/ = Device that uses electricity, oil or gas to produce light.
Lame /lem/ = (of people and animals) Unable to walk well because of injury to
the leg or foot.
c. Of and off have the similar pronunciation

Off /f / = Away from a place : at a distance in space or time.
d. While and wild have the similar pronunciation
While /wal/ = During the time that something happening
Wild /wald/ = Living or growing in natural conditions.
