LASER APPLICATIONS

Since lasers were invented, they can now be found in hundreds of applications
in a wide range of fields such as consumer electronics, information technology,
scientific research, medicine, industry and the military. In many applications,
the advantages of lasers due to their physical properties, such as coherence,
monochromaticity and the ability to achieve power extremely high. For
example, a coherent laser beam can be focused below its limit
of diffraction which, wavelengths visible, correlates to only a
few nanometers . When you focus a powerful laser beam at one point, it
receives a huge energy density. This property allows the laser to
record gigabytes of information in the microscopic cavities of
a DVD or Blu-ray . It also allows a laser medium or low power reach very high
currents and use it to burn or cut materials.

1. Military

In the army there are several applications of lasers.They are also used
for distance measurement. The laser is directed is collected on a particular
purpose and the reflection. By measuring how long it takes to return the beam
and multiplying by the speed of light does one know then how far away

In medicine it has been applied for a few years after being invented. Its future
is very promising in all areas of diagnosis and treatment. In the field of
treatment for disorders and disease of the eye, lasers are used both for
superficial ( cornea ) as the deeper ( lens , retina , choroid )
treatments. Certain eye conditions arise too many blood vessels in the choroid,
it can be cauterized by laser. For the medical treatments, lasers with different
wavelengths are available. In dentistry field, patients with high fear of the
dentist can use a laser to remove painlessly holes without the patient noticing
that hole is sterilized, resulting in less chance of an inflamed nerve in the
dialing or tooth and less pain during the annual visit to the dentist.

3. Industry

A laser beam of several million watts is capable of cutting steel pieces faster
and cleaner than conventional cutting tools. High laser rays are excellent in
drilling. The ability of a laser beam to travel long distances without spreading
makes it particularly useful for investigators, especially in the accuracy of
long-range drilling, for example a long tunnel drilling that drilling is done from
both ends.
