Cutting-Tool Nomenclature

Cutting edge: leading edge of that does cutting

Face: Superficie contra la que se apoya el chip, ya que est
separada del trabajo
Nose: Punta de herramienta de corte formada por unin de filo y
cara frontal

Cutting-Tool Nomenclature

Nose radius: radio a la que se muele la nariz

Size of radius will affect finish
Rough turning: small nose radius (.015in)
Finish cuts: larger radius (.060 to .125 in.)
Point: extremo de la herramienta que se ha triturado con fines de
corte

Turning

Assume cutting machine steel: If rake and relief clearance

angles correct and proper speed and feed used, a continuous
chip should be formed.

Turning
Cutting conditions
Example 1
A component (material: steel 1018, hardness: 175 Bhn) is going to be turned
from an original diameter of 100 mm, to a final diameter of 92 mm, in one
cutting pass, over a length of 200 mm.
Determine the cutting conditions that should be used:
Cutting velocity, m/min
Spindle speed, rpm
Feedrate, mm/rev
Machining time, sec.
When using the following tools:
a) Coated carbide tool
b) HSS tool

Example 2
A component (material: steel 1045, hardness: 180 Bhn) is going to be turned
from an original diameter of 50 mm, to a final diameter of 40 mm, in two
cutting passes (roughing and finishing), over a length of 150 mm.
Depths of cut to be used:
Roughing: 4 mm
Finishing: 1 mm
Determine the cutting conditions to be used for each operation:
Cutting velocity, m/min
Spindle speed, rpm
Feedrate, mm/rev
Machining time, sec.
When using the following tool:
a) Coated carbide tool
