Define Segmentation Structures

Use

In this Customizing activity, you define the key and name for a segmentation structure. The segmentation structure
contains segmentation structure fields. You can freely define each segmentation structure field.

A segmentation structure is a well-defined sequential combination of two or more segmentation characteristics which you
can used to define one or more segmentation strategies.

Requirements

You have defined segmentation relevant characteristics using Master Data Characteristics Management (transaction
CT04).

Activities

You can use your segmentation structure to define segmentation strategies in the Customizing activity Define
Segmentation Strategies. You can use a structure in a strategy if you have created at least one valid segment for the
structure.

For each segmentation structure field, you must specify the following settings:

Specify the Characteristic that can be used as segmentation values in segmentation strategies

Specify the rank of the segmentation field

Enable a user to leave a segment field empty by selecting Indicator for Enable Blank as a Valid Entry

Specify a field offset for where the segmentation fields are placed in a segmentation structure.

Specify a field length. The system automatically transfers the field length from the user-defined field or the
dictionary field. You cannot change the field length.

Note

After you have specified the structure fields, you must lock the segmentation structure. You can create segmentation values
only if you lock the segmentation structure.

You can unlock your segmentation structure if you delete the segmentation strategy. However, if the segmentation strategy
is already in use by a material, it cannot be deleted.

To create a material with segments, you must assign the segmentation structure to material master.

Example

You define a segmentation structure that consists of quality and customer segments. You name the structure 001A. 001
represents the quality and A represents the customer segment.
Define Segmentation Strategies
Use

In this Customizing activity, you name your segmentation strategy and assign valid stock segments and requirement
segments to it.

Requirements

You have defined the structure of your stock segments and requirements segments in the Customizing activity Define
Segmentation Structures.

Standard settings

Enter your segmentation strategy in this table

Flag the segmentation strategy with a field key

Assign a short text to the segmentation strategy

The system considers a segmentation strategy when you have assigned the segmentation strategy to a material. You then
assign the valid stock and requirements segments to your segmentation strategy. You can describe the segmentation
strategy using a short text. The system displays this description in the dialog box in the application. The segments cannot be
deleted, nor their structure changed, once the segments have been assigned to a segmentation strategy, when you have
created a document such as a sales order.

Recommendation

We recommended that you define a requirement segment with a blank. You can combine all the requirements that cannot
be uniquely assigned.

Activities

Define the segmentation strategy (key, short description and scope). When you have defined the segmentation strategy, you
can enter the following information:

Segment combinations

Enter segmentation values and the priority sequence of segment combinations. You can also activate stock
protectionfor segmentationvalues and specify the priority of segmentation values for stock protection.

Requirement and stock allocation

Specify how the requirement segments use the stock segments during the material requirements planning run.
The system considers the available stock and the future receipts. If there are multiple stock segments that can be
consumed by a certain requirements segment, you can define the sequence for consuming different stock
segments using Consecutive Number for Segmentation of Equal Status.

ATP: requirement and stock allocation

Specify how the requirement segments are assigned to the stock segments during the availability check.
The system checks for availability of stock segments at different levels based on the values you specify in the Seg.
Check Level column.

Stock transfer
Define the assignment of stock segments to requirements segments between two plants.
The assignment in this table is used when the dependent requirement is generated.

Requirement to stock conversion

Define the stock segment to be proposed for a specific requirement when the system creates new proposals
during the lot-size calculation.

Planned independent requirements consumption

Define the requirement segments of the planned independent requirementsand the requirements segments of
the customer requirement that consumes the requirement segments of the planned independent requirements.

MRP: consolidated segmentation rules

Displays the consolidated mapping rules the system generates when you save the following transactions:

o Requirement/stock allocation

o Stock transfer

o Requirement to stock conversion

o Planned independent requirements consumption

You cannot maintain the entries manually. These entries are generated by the system in the background. You can
trigger the generation of the entries using the report SGT_MRP_CONS_RULE_GENERATE.

Note

If you do not want to use specific segment values in the segmentation strategy for the above, you can use:

Indicates a 1:1 mapping, that is, the system maps requirement segment X to stock segment X

Indicates a 1:N mapping, that is, the system maps requirement segment X to multiple stock segments as defined in
the segmentation strategy

You assign and fix your segmentation strategy to the material master. When you fix the segmentation strategy for a material,
you cannot change the segmentation strategy.
