Precipitation
1. Precipitation at station X was inoperative for part of September during which a storm
occurred. The respective storm totals at three surrounding stations A, B, and C, were 98, 80,
and 110 mm. The normal annual precipitation amounts at stations X, A, B, and C are,
respectively, 880, 1008, 842, and 1080 mm. Estimate the storm precipitation for station X.
2. Use information from Question 1, if the distances from station X to stations A, B, and C, are
10, 30, 25 km, respectively. Estimate the storm precipitation for station X using inverse
distance weighing method.

3.The average annual precipitation for the four sub basins constituting a large river basin is
730, 850, 1120, and 1010 mm. The areas are 930, 710, 1090, and 1680 km2, respectively. What
is the average annual precipitation for the basin?
4. Consider the following rainfall pattern over a watershed during a storm. Determine the
equivalent uniform depth of rainfall over the watershed.

5. The annual precipitation at station X and the average annual precipitation at 15 surrounding
stations are as shown below.
(c) If the precipitation record at station X is not consistent, adjust the record according to the
assumption of permanent change AND temporary change. Also plot the double mass curve
after the adjustment. Submit both table of calculation and graph.

6. Plot precipitation of station X as a time series. Calculate the mean annual precipitation,
standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. Also plot 5-year moving averages. Are there
any apparent cycles or time trends? Discuss.
