CHAPTER 3

METHODOLOGY

This chapter presents the research design, population and sampling of the

study, respondents, research instrument, and statistical treatment of data.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study will use a descriptive survey method to assess the factors of the

festival in terms of the attitude, economy, tourism industry, and culture. Also to

determine the demographic profile such as sex, age, educational qualifications of

the tourist and local in the area where the festival is situated. The sort of

information will be gathered specifically from the population and sample group in

the range of examination. This practical research is utilized the design of

descriptive research method. The quantitative method provides to analyze the

research problem on the context of acquiring information using formulas and

computations. Descriptive research is a calculated process of data gathering,

analyzing, classifying, and tabulating data about main various phenomenon, such

as conditions, practices, beliefs, process, trends, and cause-effect relationships

and data will be accurately interpreted. Descriptive research is used to describe

characteristic and behavior of the sample population.

POPULATION AND SAMPLE OF THE STUDY

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The instrument used for the study will be survey questionnaire which

modified by the researchers to meet the research objectives. The draft of the

questionnaire was drawn out based on the researchers readings, previous

studies, professional literature, published and unpublished thesis relevant to the

study. In the preparation of the instrument, the needs of creating and designing of

an acceptable data collection will be considered. For some instances in describing

a statement in the questionnaire the questions are made not to confuse the answer

of a respondents. Rating Scale options are made to provided and accommodate

the responses of the local and tourist pertaining to the questions given. The

questionnaire is composed of different variables that can examine the factors of

Higantes Festival as a tourist attraction and how it can be develop to attract more

tourist. These variables are composed of factors such as in tourism industry,

culture, economy, attitude. The rating and scale is composing of 4 points which

are 1-Strongly Disagree (3.41 - 4.00), 2-Disagree (2.61 - 3.40), 3-Agree (1.81 -

2.60), 4-Strongly Agree (1.00 - 1.80) so data can be accurately computed. The

survey instrument is divided in to three parts which are: Part 1. Profile of the

Respondents; Part 2. Assessment about Higantes Festival; Part 3. Suggestions.

This will help the respondents to select their opinions to the questions listed in the

questionnaire and to write their comments or suggestion pertaining to the said

festival.
DATA GATHERING PROCEDURE

The first step before going to the testing proper is to make a request letter

for a permission the researchers will be doing survey in a barangay to know the

status of Higantes Festival as a tourism attraction on the basis of the factors that

affects the festivals. Upon the approval the researchers had reclaim the request.

Second step had gone to the area to perform a survey to the people who are

available to refrain from disturbing them from their work. The questions are easy,

and a little time will consume to answer the whole questionnaire. After data

gathering, the researchers will now collect the data that was gathered for tallying

the scores and to apply the statistical treatment to be used with the study.

TREATMENT OF DATA

The responses made by local and tourist describing their demographic

profile, assessment, suggestions is present. For instance, demographic profile,

assessment and suggestions will also determine if the factors affect the status of

Higantes Festival as a tourism attraction in Angono, Rizal. This will also help to

determine anticipated problems regarding the said festival, summary

presentations will also present.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT OF DATA

The responses to the questionnaire by the local and tourist will be

statistically analyzed with the data requirements of the study, it was manually

computed by through excel getting the weighted mean, overall mean, and rank of

the tallys questions and also by determining the verbal interpretation of every data

questions that was gathered. Respondents will be statistically analyzed with the

data instruments of the study. Descriptive statistic such as frequency count, mean,

percent, and rank will be considered.

To know if Higantes Festival is one of the reason why tourist and local go

to area as a tourism attraction. The range and Interpretation of 4-point scale are

shown in Table 3.

Table 5

The 4-point Likert Scale

Scale Range Verbal Interpretaion

3 2.61 - 3.40 Agree (AG)

2 1.81 - 2.60 Disagree (DA)
