23rd July 2010

Dear Prospective MSc Marketing Student,

Thank you for choosing the MSc Marketing programme at the University of Leicester School of
Management. I am the Programme Leader for MSc Marketing and I, along with my colleagues,
look forward to meeting you when you join us later this month.

I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of news and events within the School of
Management that are relevant to your programme.

The semester 1 reading lists will be published when you join us. Prior to arriving you may
wish to prepare yourself with some preliminary reading. The following texts are
recommended:

Jobber, David (2009), 'Principles and Practice of Marketing' (6th

Edition), Maidenhead: McGraw-Hill.

Malhotra, Naresh and David Birks (2007), ‘Marketing Research: An

Applied Approach (3rd European Edition)’, London: Prentice Hall.

Saren, Mike, Pauline Maclaren, Christina Goulding, Richard Elliott, Avi

Shankar and Miriam Caterall (2007), ‘Critical Marketing: Defining the
Field’, Oxford: Butterworth-Heinemann.

School of Management Programme Registration will take place on two days: Monday 4th and
Tuesday 5th October 2010, in Lecture Theatre 2, Ken Edwards Building, between 10.00 and
16.00 on each day.

You may attend programme registration on either day, but please note that in order to
register with the School of Management you must have first completed the University’s
formal, and fee payment, registration processes. Further information on University
registration can be found at the following link:
http://www.le.ac.uk/academic/registry/Registration/

When you attend the School of Management programme registration you will need to bring
with you:

1) Confirmation of University registration (print out of e-mail confirming your

registration with University of Leicester)
2) Two passport sized photographs
The teaching timetable, along with programme handbooks, campus maps, and other useful
information will be supplied at registration and you should note that teaching begins on
Wednesday 6th October 2010.

In the second semester (January 2011 onwards) you will study two elective modules. The list
of elective modules outlined in the prospectus is subject to change, and for 2010/11 the
following modules will be available for you to advance your studies. You will be able to study
two modules from the following selection:

• Alternative Economies
• A Critical Enquiry into Consultancy
• B2B Marketing and Supply Chain Management
• Quantitative Marketing Intelligence
• Services Marketing
• International Marketing
You will be asked in December to select your three preferred options from this list. Normally
you will be given your first and second choice preferences, and will only be allocated your
third choice if the other options chosen are in very high demand. You will be given further
information about these elective modules during semester 1 and do not need to make your
selections now.

These are very exciting times at the School of Management and we look forward to
welcoming you soon.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Richard Godfrey
