Course Aims:
This course aims to provide students with a basic understanding of the operational aspects in the airline industry,
including passenger services, departure services, in-flight services and arrival services of airlines and passenger
services agents, as well as the safety and security issues, flight irregularities and disruption management in the airline
industry.

Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs)


Upon successful completion of this course, students should be able to:
1. Outline the aviation geography, and structure of airline industry;
2. Explain the key roles of airlines and ground handling agents in the aviation system;
3. Appraise the operations in passenger services, departure services, in-flight services and arrival services of
airlines and ground handling agents;
4. Explain the safety and security issues applicable to the airline industry; and
5. Discuss the challenges of flight irregularities and disruption handling of airlines in general.

Airline Geography
Basic structure of airline, ground handling agent, airline marketing.
Airline Operations
Passenger booking, departure services (check processes, lounge management, boarding gate handling, baggage
services, airside operations, and special passenger handling), in-flight services, arrival services (transit
passengers handling and baggage claims), flight irregularities and disruption handling, airline cargo booking,
airline import/export cargo handling, airline cargo handling procedure.
Airline Safety and Security
Local and international regulations; responsibilities for airline and airport; measures taken in booking, before
boarding, in-flight, and post-flight; human factors in airport operations.

of passengers, for students to apply concepts and knowledge learnt in
lectures.
iv. Test 15 Test is used to check the students ability to apply the essential
concepts in analysing the different airline operations issues.
