ZXWM M900 (backbone transmission platform toll backbone wave division equipment)
is applicable for large-capacity optical transmission, fully satisfying the networking and
management requirements of various users and facilitating the constructions of toll
backbone networks. The system supports up to 40 working wavelengths and up to
400Gb/s transmission capacity, with the wavelength selection and interval being in strict
compliance with ITU-T Recommendations. It supports multiple networking modes like
the link mode, the ring mode and the ring tangent mode.
ZXWM M900 is of two types, the integrated type and the open type. The integrated
system can directly access the ZXSM-2500 SDH or ZXSM-10G, addressing the
requirements for optical interfaces specified in the G.692 Recommendation. The open
system, adopting the wavelength conversion technology, can be configured with the
wavelength transfer unit that enables multi-service access, expands the trunk distance and
capacity of SDH transmission equipment from different vendors, and accesses service
signals like IP data signals.
In consideration of the features of the toll backbone network, the system supports both
long-span networking as well as mixed networking of various spans to meet different
networking requirements.
2. It enables the open multi-service access mode and provides the multi-service access
OTU.
ZXWM M900 adopts the open design mode. It employs the O/E/O wavelength
conversion technology to convert the accessed optical signals into optical signals
compliant with G.692 Specifications and G.691 Recommendations. Besides transparently
accessing the STM-N signals from any SDH equipment, it can bear optical signals of
other formats (like POS, GE and ATM), thereby fully protecting users´ investments. This
is an ideal mode for network expansion.
Via service convergence, wavelength resources can be effectively used. The system also
enables performance monitoring and overhead transparent transmission of services.
4. Featuring flexible filter design, it adopts the parallel structure and supports the
add/drop of 1-40 waves.
Due to the uneven distribution of MAN services and uncertainty of future service
expansion, the MAN equipment should enable flexible scalability. Based on the modular
filter design, the ZXWM M900 equipment enables the scalability from 1 to 40 waves,
with various node upgrading requirements being satisfied.
5. It enables flexible networking modes, including link networking, ring networking and
tangent ring networking.
In ZXWM M900, the OSC board, NCP board and OHP board support cross networking.
Hence in ZXWM M900 system, complicated network topologies (for example link
network, star network, cross network, tangent ring network, and intersection network)
can be easily realized.
To ensure network performance, the ZXWM M900 system adopts complete power
management technologies to adjust and control the power of system nodes.
In the system, three equipments are configured with the optical performance monitoring
unit, which is used to measure the parameters of each optical channel, for example optical
power, central wavelength and optical SNR (Signal Noise Ratio). It also sends the data to
NMS for users´ check.
The optical forwarding board of the ZXWM M900 system provides the B1 and J0 byte
parity check function; the service convergence board enables performance check at the
tributary end and the group end; ZXWM M900 can correctly identify fault areas and fault
types.
In the ZXWM M900 system, boards in the main optical channel adopt big-range and
high-precision power collection & monitoring technologies; the measurement error is less
than 1dB; the system performance can be reflected accurately.
9. It can be configured with the out-of-band Forward Error Correction (FEC) function.
11. It provides the NMS with strong power and unique features.
The ZXWM-NMS provides friendly and operable user interfaces. It supports multi-layer
management on the NE layer, NE management layer and NM layer. In addition to such
functions as standard alarm management, performance management, configuration
management, maintenance management and system management specified in the ITU-T
Recommendations, it also boasts the following features:
12. The system has flexible structure and smooth upgrading ability.
The ZXWM M900 system adopts the modular structure. The backplane interfaces of all
optical channel boards are the same, which enables board intermixing; the system can
hence be flexibly configured. System upgrading and expansion can be implemented by
adding optical forwarding subracks and boards in the same rack; the system provides fine
compatibility and scalability and fully protects users´ investments.
The system adopts the multi-rack management technologies. Each NCP board in the
ZXWM M900 system provides multi-rack management function, which is conducive to
the smooth scalability of the system.
II. Applications
On August 12, 2004, ZTE won the tender for supplying optical network products to the
national backbone network transmission project for TELKOM, the biggest fixed network
operator in Indonesia. This project represented a breakthrough of ZTE´s DWDM
products in Indonesia market. ZTE´s ZXWM-M900 backbone network OTM equipment,
ZXSM-10G backbone network SDH transmission equipment and ZXSM-2500C will be
provided to construct the national backbone transmission network of TELKOM.
Currently, TELKOM requires only two traditional SDH services, i.e. E1 and STM-1.
ZTE´s network solution, however, will not only satisfy the current service requirements
and future requirements for new data services, but also make allowance for the future
expansions.
The above networking topology shows dual-node tangent rings. Each node on the rings
adopts the ZXWM M900, which is configured in the back-to-back OTM mode, fully
ensuring the add/drop of 32 waves (to be upgraded to 40 waves). On the public crossing
nodes of the two rings, the wave channel protection is provided to further increase
network security.
To cooperate with the DWDM-layer solution, ZTE adopts ZXSM-10G and ZXSM-
2500C to add/drop and schedule large-capacity services. ZTE´s optical transmission
network solution provides complete protection on services in addition to ensuring service
capacity. The network layer enables the MS-SPRing (Multiplex Section Shared
Protection Ring); the NE layer provides 1+1 or 1:1 protection for public boards, and 1:N
protection for electric service boards.
1. System structure
In this phase of the project, according to the initial traffic requirements, 2*10G services
will be provided. With the developments of network services, online upgrading of
wavelength can be implemented without affecting existing services so as to fully satisfy
the requirements for future service developments.
2. Services
The ZXWM M900 backbone network DWDM system supports multiple services: SDH
services, including STM-1/-4/-16/-64; SONET services, including OC-3/-12/-48/-192;
ATM services or POS, including STM-1c/4c/16c; Ethernet services, including
10M/FE/GE service; enterprise storage connection service (ESCON); and fiber channel
service (FC). In addition, it provides flexible multi-rate interfaces to bear any services at
the rate of 45Mbit/s-2.5Gbit/s.
To solve the problem of low bandwidth usage rate caused by small-granule services, the
ZXWM M900 system adopts the T-MUX (Transparent-Multiplexing) mode to implement
binding transmission of subrate bandwidth. This can greatly reduce investments and
operation costs, and overcome the complexity and diversity of MAN services.
3. Protection system
In this phase of the project, the SDH layer enables 10G 2F MSSPRing protection. As the
project design has fully considered the OSNR of the biggest distance and dispersion, the
system can be upgraded online to cater to service developments. Optical layer protection
can be finally executed.
4. Upgrading design
The wavelength number can be added and configured freely within 40 waves. In the
future, with the developments of network services, online wavelength upgrading can be
implemented without affecting existing services to cater to future requirements.
New services can be configured to enable the add/drop function; existing services can be
added/dropped without being interrupted. If existing services are upgraded to enable the
add/drop function, the services might be interrupted temporarily. (Yu Huihui)
