Kanaya, Norianki. Different Effects of Propofol and Sevolflurane on Heart

/Rate
Variability. Anesthesiology , ASA, Jan. 2003,
anesthesiology.pubs.asahq.org/article.aspx?articleid=2173902.

Propofol decreases the heart rate and the arterial blood pressure
The propofol affects the contraction of the heart and slows the rate of it
down
It is used so much more and has become popular because of how fast the
recovery of the patient is after the surgery.
Theres a hypothesis that the Propofol affects the circulation and pushing
the flow of blood through circulatory system or the volume being pumped
out by the heart caused by the widening of the blood vessels slowing in
heart contraction.
Because the Propofol affects the cardiac nerve system in return it affects
the HR.

This website is helpful in describing how the propofol affects the systems
the heart connects to.

Borreli, Lizette. General Anesthesia And The Human Brain: How Going

Under May Impact Cognitive Function. Medical Daily, Newsweek

Propofol causes amnesia

Scientists believe that Propofol affects GABA (neurotransmitter gamma-
aminobutyric acid) that affect out sensory and sleep nerves.
Lower doses makes the brain more active higher doses makes the brain less
active
When Kids are exposed to anesthesia only once it puts the risk of them
have neuro informalities larger than the kids who have been exposed to it
more.
Children under 4 years old experience language change and IQ change
when introduced to anesthetics.
A study showed that children under the age of 3 undergoing surgeries had a
higher chance of having learning disadvantages double the amount of kids
who are exposed later in life.
When older patients are exposed to anesthetics it can take up to 6 months for
a full recovery from the surgery.
When older patients undergo anesthetics they have a higher chance of
dementia which is 35% higher because of inflammation in the tissues.
About 40 million anesthetics are given to patients every year.
Can cause intense dreaming or wild/unusual behavior
It decreases the fluid pressure inside of the eye.
It decreases the Cerebral blood flow (cerebral-brain) (blood amount given
to the brain)

This website helps me understand the full explanation of what happens to

the brain.

Burnett, Christine. Intravenous Anesthe c Agents. UTHealth Nurse

Anesthesia Division, 3 Oct. 2017

After a 10 day infusion it only takes about 40 minutes to wake up from the
anesthetic propofol
It takes around 15-20 minutes to wake up from a 10 hour infusion of
propofol
It takes about 4-8 minutes to wake up from a 1 hour infusion of propofol.
It may cause the patient to have hiccups/ coughing or gagging while waking
up.
HPV remains the same and intact
When going under propofol during an emergency case right after eating,
may cause the patient to throw up, if there is not a tube then the vomit can
get into the lungs and the body.
There is no change in kidney function
There is no change in liver function
Linoleic acid produces arachidonic acid
Arachidonic acid is a fatty acid
Linoleic acid is a carboxylic acid
It decreases the resistance of blood flow through the bodys blood vessels.
Pentothal doesnt have an effect on the bodys blood flow throughout the
blood vessels

This powerpoint can help me with my presentation because it has the basic
facts of the brain with detail.
