Inquiry Research Proposal

Question: How can illness in animals be better detected?

My specific purpose to this inquiry is to research how illness is detected in animals. From

there, I will see how this can be improved upon so that illness can be detected earlier, even if the

illness is hard to find. From this inquiry, I hope to gain more knowledge about what is being

done to help prevent untimely deaths in animals due to illness, and also discover ways that

animal health can be preserved for longer like how it has been done with humans. I picked this

inquiry question because of a recent incident. A couple of weeks ago, my brother sent me a text

saying that Soulmate, one of my familys dogs that I had known since sixth grade, was put down.

This is because of a rare illness that she had, even though just a week earlier she was very

healthy and playful as always. The surgery for her treatment was to expensive, and there was

nothing my brother could do because the disease was so sudden.

My biggest prior belief to this inquiry was that illness in animals was very noticeable in

their actions. However, this is clearly not the case in some instances. Sometimes, the disease can

be in the animals body without them even knowing about it, and thus making the symptoms

unknown. As far as experience with this topic, I do not have a lot. We have had a lot of dogs in

my, but many of them are still alive to this day. And for the ones that are not, they passed away

when I was too young to really understand the situation involving their deaths. So overall, I am

very ignorant concerning this topic, because it has just started to spark my interest recently.
