(A) INSTALLING AND LAUNCHING THE PROGRAM

Please Note: If you plan to use this program in a computer lab, contact the lab
administrator early.

To begin the Longman Intro Paper program, you must first install Java and QuickTime
on the computer. For Windows and Mac OS X, this is a one-step installation. Read
the instructions completely before proceeding.

Please Note: After you install the program, the CD-ROM must be in the CD-ROM drive
when you use the program.

the installation will begin automatically.
* If the installation does not begin, follow these instructions:
- Open My Computer.
- Double-click on the CD-ROM drive icon, the symbol that looks like a CD.
* Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.
* If you do not already have QuickTime installed on your computer, QuickTime 7 will
be installed automatically.

- Click on Start.
- Select Programs.
- Select Longman Intro Paper.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are running Mac OS X 10.1, you also need the Java 1.3.1 Update
1. This update is included inside the "Mac OS X" folder on this CD-ROM. To perform
this update, follow these steps:

* Double-click on the "Longman Intro Paper" icon on the desktop.

* Double-click on the "Mac OS X" folder.
* Double-click the "Java1.3.1Update1" file, and then follow the instructions on the
screen to complete the update.

(D) STARTING THE PROGRAM

The first screen of the Longman Intro Paper CD-ROM offers three ways to start the
program:

1. New User - if you have never used the program before.

2. Local User - if you have already used the program on this computer.

3. Disk User - if you have used the program on this computer or on a different
computer and have your score data stored on a floppy (data) disk.

(E) USING THE PROGRAM

You can use this program in two ways.

1. One person on the same computer for each session

For this method, a floppy disk is NOT necessary, and you do not need to do anything
to save your score data when you exit the program. The computer will automatically
save your scores and your completed questions.

* Start your first session by selecting New User.

* Start each following session by selecting Local User.
* At the end of each session, your data will automatically be saved on the
computer.

PLEASE NOTE: Starting a session as a New User or as a Disk User will delete all
previously saved data on the computer.

2. More than one person on the same computer or one person on different computers

A floppy disk is necessary for saving score data if more than one person uses the
program on the same computer. A person who uses the software on different
computers will also need a floppy disk for saving data.

* Insert a floppy disk.

* Start your first session by selecting New User.
* Start each following session by selecting Disk User.
* At the Log Out screen, click on the Copy Data button to save your data to the
floppy disk.
