Topic : Persistent to raise-up hands to answer question

1. Problem
In teaching and learning that I handled in a Year 1 Amanah, I found that
pupils in this class often answer questions posed by teachers without raised their
hand. The pupils does not raised their hand, instead they continued shouting and
screaming the answer directly. This problem occurs mainly male pupils. This
situation disturb the teaching and learning process.

2. Analysis
1 Amanah is the first grade in a whole year one at Sekolah Kebangsaan
Petani Jaya. This class consists of pupils who have outstanding academic
achievement. In other words, the class have many smart pupils. However, pupils
in the class often does not raised their hand when answering the questions posed
by the teacher. This situation has led to the noisy situation in the the class and
disturbing the process of teaching and learning in this the class. Not one or two
that do this, but almost all pupils in the class does raised their hand to answer.
From the teachers aspects, maybe Im not be fierce or firmly against pupils led
them not to be afraid to teachers. In addition to that, I may not tell or familiarize
pupils to raise their hands before answering. From the pupils aspects, the pupils
may feel that they do not need to raise up their hand to answer questions. In
addition, pupils may feel excited to answer the questions made them rush so they
do not raise their hands. In addition, these pupils are in smart class. So, they have
lots of ideas and answers to be given, but not given the opportunity to express their
ideas.
3. Suggestions for improvement.
Teacher set up classroom ground rules which have the rule of raise up their hand
to speak, and make it visible for pupils to see. This will remind them to follow the
rules.

If pupils do not follow the rules will be imposed fines.

In addition, if the pupils answered without lifting his hands, his answer will not be
accepted.
All students are given the opportunity to answer questions. Therefore, pupils will
not be scrambling to answer questions because each student has the opportunity
each.
To motivate students to behave as required teacher, every student answered the
questions raised his hands will be rewarded shortly thereafter.

4. Solution Periods and Follow-up

I will try to solve this problem in a week to familiarize the pupils with the new
regulations. If the problem persists, I will use a new method of giving them the
questions in writing and call the names of pupils who wish to read and resolve that
question.

5. Conclusion/ Reflection
Students will strive to according to stipulated rules of raised his hands to
answer questions in order to get rewards and avoid the fines imposed. Individually,
pupils have the motivation to be positive because pupils will be rewarded. Sure
there will be a desire within the other pupils to get rewards when some of their
friends get the reward. This situation coincides with the theory of operating
conditioning by Skinner where positive reinforcement (reward) is a stimulus to
increase the probability of a positive behaviour desired by teachers. Negative
reinforcement (punishment) are applied to give the impression that there is firm in
learning progress, and the hope that they will not repeat their mistake again.
