INTRODUCTION OF HYBRID COOLING TOWER

Any combination of Air


Cooled Condensers,
Cooling Towers,
Surface Condensers
and Air Cooled Heat
Exchangers is
commonly termed a
hybrid cooling
system.

These hybrid cooling


systems are commonly
used when water is
available but not in the
quantities necessary to
support a 100% wet
cooled system
CLOSED CIRCUIT OR HYBRID COOLING TOWER: -

Closed circuit cooling towers


completely isolate the
process cooling fluid from the
atmosphere. This is
accomplished by combining
the heat rejection equipment
with a heat exchanger in a
closed circuit tower. A closed
loop system protects the
quality of the process fluid,
reduces system maintenance,
and provides operational
flexibility at a slightly higher
initial cost.
DIRECT EFFECT OF HYBRID COOLING TOWER: -

No make up water required in whole life of hybrid cooling tower which


is compulsory in wet cooling tower and in any case during summer
season circulation air temperature will rise then we have already
provided special system to circulate the water over the tube in that
case only 0.01% circulation water will required which negligible in
comparison to wet Cooling Tower

In wet cooling tower during circulation of cooling tower water TDS will
exceed more than 3,000, it would required effluent treatment of the
water through ETP system which is not required in hybrid cooling tower

After treatment of the water through ETP it would pass through RO


system
INDIRECT EFFECT OF HYBRID COOLING TOWER: -

During circulation of water atmosphere impurity dissolve in


circulating water due to which the circulation of water cause scaling of
tubes resulting heat exchanger capacity also reduces more than 15%.

In wet cooling tower due to evaporation of the water it will cause


corrosion on all plant structure nearby cooling tower area which risks
the life of other equipment the loss would be major enough to justify
for the new hybrid cooling tower.
We are enclosing here per annum running calculation of wet Cooling
Tower which will pay extra cost in comparison of hybrid cooling tower

Below is an case study of one of our client, who was earlier, using
conventional cooling tower of capacity 110CMH, where we have
installed Hybrid cooling tower in place of conventional cooling tower

RUNNING CALCULATION OF WET COOLING TOWER:-

Evaporation loss 110 CMH Cooling Tower if we consider 1.5% of


the make up water i.e.
110 CMH x 1.5% = 1.65 CMH
Per annum make up water of 110 CMH hybrid Cooling Tower will be
1.65 CMH x 24 x 365 = 14,454 M3 per annum
Cost of per KL water RS 40/-M3
Total cost involve per annum of make up water of 110 CMH hybrid
Cooling Tower is
40 x 14,454 = 5, 78,160/-
Due to evaporation of water if we consider TDS of fresh Intel
Circulation water is 500 and TDS will increase mare than 3000 within one week will
require softening of high TDS water through effluent treatment plant.
And ETP cost is RS. 70/-KL
Total cost invest per annum will be
= 70 x 110x 365

= Rs. 4, 01,500/-
Total direct saving cost through hybrid cooling
tower
5,78,160 + 4,01,500 + 9,17,714 + 2,28,000 =
RS 21,25,214.00

Indirect effect will be more than direct effect of


Wet cooling tower
Per annum saving will be, more than RS. 50
LAKH/-

On the above payback period of hybrid cooling


tower will not be more than 1 year which is
remarkable in hybrid cooling tower.
