COURSE DESCRIPTION

Short Description:

The course of phonetics represents the systematic representation of native speakers casual speech
using phonetics transcription and stress placement rules in addition to English intonation patterns
and aspects of connected speech and finally to introduce English accents. The students are exposed
to listening and repeating drills to improve their pronunciation and fluency.

Aims:

The main aim of the course of phonetics is to enable students with the appropriate rules and
knowledge to understand and practice the various stress rules which can affect utterances meaning
if stress placement is not accurate. The course of phonetics helps students to recognize the different
patterns of intonation according to the attitudes and grammatical function of tones. Finally, as an
objective to our course we tend to make students aware of the various accents of English in the
world mainly American and British accents.

Assessment:

The course is assessed in a form of achievement test as an TD: 00 % of the Total Grading
exam each semester. Due to the large number of students per
each group which is very hard task for teachers to monitor and Achievement Test (Exam): 100 %
assess their performance in continuous evaluation, this is why of the total grading
we see it an obligation to avoid the latter and to grade
students in exams only.
