My Experience On the Anthology Concert

The University of the Philippines Los Banos Choral Ensemble performed a great
concert that featured the different Christmas Carols (International, English and Filipino)
last November 3, 2016. Some of the songs being performed by the choir were Veni Veni
Emmanuel , the First Noel, Deck the Hall, Himig Pasko, Munting sanggol and many
more. I have heard that the UPLBCE has been exposed to diverse musical productions.
The group regularly participates in command performances, concerts, choral festivals and
competitions both locally and internationally. The performance of the group was held at
the DL Umali Hall. the ambiance was good and I can say that the atmosphere was very
relaxed and elegant, that I thought that I am in a world class performance of a choral
group. Throughout the performance, a song captivated my heart beacuse since when I
was a child, whenever I heard of it being played, I always used to have the feeling that
Christmas day is coming. It was a song that describes the culture of "Night Mass" in the
Philippines, which is a devotional nine-day series of all masses practiced by Roman
Catholics and Aglipayans in anticipation of Christmas and to honor the Blessed Virgin
Mary. The title of the song is "Simbanggabi" composed by a premier composer ans song
writer, Lucio San Pedro.
Like what I said, I choose "Simbanggabi" because whenever I heard it being
played, I used to feel that Christmas day is coming. Also, the "ANTHOLOGY: Sounds of
the Season" was a very good concert indeed. Choir and soloists provided a well
rehearsed and well blended experience for an enthusiastic audience. The young soloists,
both vocal and instrumental, excelled in every way; giving the listener a thrilling
experience. Moreover, the singers were very professional in both physical appearance
and their sound. They were all dressed and aligned effectively. The sounds of every
performer and group were strong and intriguing. The atmosphere was relaxed but at the
same time very professional. All the performers were very professional in the way they
held their music and their posture, looking at the conductor, following his every move.
Their sound was extraordinary, many of the pitches going from loud to soft tones. The
piece created great emotions. The piano created wonderful sounds, as well as the
background noises that the performers created .The crowd was very entertained and
showed this through a wonderful applause at the end. From my opinion, the UPLCE
were very well organized and their sounds were perfect.
