4.5 TSW read and demonstrate comprehension of fictional text, narrative nonfiction text and poetry.

a) explaining why George Washington is called the Father of our Country and James Madison is called

Materials/Resources
Smallgroups
Class novel- TJ and the Time Travel
Thanksgiving Writing Proclamation Reading folders
Pencils/markers paper
Ipad for transition music crayons (Wax)
Lighter paper clip
Safety (if applicable)
Making sure students are working with their groups, completing the tasks in each center, and
working with teacher in the small group or remediation on other skills such as writing, or
handwriting. Making sure the noise level is at a whisper, and transitions are done in a calm
manner.

min TW explain the partner rotations with reading folders will happen on Tuesdays
and Thursdays, and the work that will be completed at the group rotation and
collected in reading folders for a grade.

min TTW direction for each group and divide the student into groups and explain the activity
or task in each group.
New Writing Activity; Thanksgiving Proclamation: SW write a proclamation that is
thanksgiving themed and what they are most thankful for. SW sign the document when
completed. Work will be displayed outside the classroom when finished.

3 *Modeling
min In small group the teacher will model by reading the directions the rest will be
completed individually in small group.
TW provide the direction for each partner center and how to complete the worksheet
and what will be graded. Worksheet- Writing with more than one purpose.
*Check for Understanding
TW check for understanding by walking around making sure students are on task
and staying focused in reading partner centers. TW check for understanding by
grading reading folders every 2 weeks. TW meet and remediate with students
who need the extra attention on authors purpose of text and handwriting.

min Tuesdays- 30 min sm. Group 2 rotation
Thursday-30 min sm. Group 2 rotation.
TW pull small group to work back at the table to create the wax seal on their document.

mins Students will participate and complete each group activity with partners or work with the
teacher in remediation on skills or areas that need attention.
Assessment
Formative: TTW walk around making sure the students say on task and working on the
reading center activities. TW assess when working with student individually or in small
group. TW reinforce an area that needs improvement.
TW grade the reading folders every 2 weeks.

3 min *Closure
TW signal for the transition and clean up and put away the group activities away.
Differentiation Strategies (enrichment, accommodations, remediation, or by learning style).
The reading centers are all on different reading levels and activity levels. SW be reviewing previous materials
or practicing current skills like vocabulary. SW be challenged and pushed pass their level in the advanced
center SW focus on current authors purpose and skills that were taught in the beginning of the year, writing
skills, and vocabulary practice for unit 6. Integrated into the reading lesson was a Thanksgiving lesson
involving the topic of a proclamation and what make it a formal document.
