Demonstrate command of the conventions Read with sufficient accuracy and fluency to
of standard English capitalization, support comprehension.
punctuation, and spelling when writing.

Objective:
Spelling: The student will be able to write various sight words on a whiteboard when told
the words orally. The end goal is for 100% accuracy, but this lesson is to help the student
gain practice with the words.

Fluency: The student will be able to read a story fluently and with minimal errors when
reading with the teacher. The end goal of reading this story is for the student to gain
practice reading fluently.

Anticipatory Set: Allow the student time to get their white board set up for each of the spelling
words. Briefly go over the objective of the game that they had created before (see below).

Outline:
Spelling
Tell the student one of their sight words and have them write it down on the white board.
Show the student the card with the word on it to check their answer. If they get it correct,
they get the card. If they do not get it correct, the teacher gets the card and the student
practices writing the word correctly.
o (Note: For each card they do not get correct, set the card aside so they can practice
that word again another day.)
Continue the above steps for about 15 minutes, each time using a different word.
Fluency
Begin the next chapter of the book about Fox by looking at the pictures on each page. Ask
the student what they think will happen in the story.
Read the chapter together by having the student read one page and the teacher read the
next.
After the chapter is finished, ask comprehension questions to check their understanding.
If time allows, have the teacher read the entire chapter, then have the student read the entire
chapter so they gain practice fluently reading the whole chapter by themselves.
For the last minute of the lesson, do some progress monitoring with the student.

Reflection: What spelling words do they need more practice on? How could their
comprehension and fluency be improved? What does the current progress monitoring data say
about their ability compared to previous progress monitoring?
