4. General Introduction (Reader)
On World Mission Sunday, in every parish around the world, a collection is taken
up for Catholic missions in over 1,150 dioceses in 120 countries. Your contribution
today will go towards helping teachers and catechists to teach the faith in urban
centers and remote villages. You will help to build churches and chapels in mission
stations for people to worship, hear Gods word and receive sacraments. You will
help in the effort to raise up and train new leaders who will minister to people in
their own language. You will provide material support to the poor and suffering
lifting up individual dignity through the love of Christ.
Your financial gift will go to the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, which is
the official worldwide Catholic network of mission cooperation enabling the
Gospel of Jesus Christ to reach to the ends of the earth. Thank you for joining in
this central work of the Church!

God our Father, you desire all men and women to be saved and come to the
knowledge of your truth. Send workers to your harvest that the gospel may be
preached to every creature. May your people, gathered together by the word of life
and strengthened by the power of the sacraments, advance in the way of salvation

A Reading from the book of Isaiah 66: 18-21
For I know their works and their thoughts, and I am coming to gather all nations
and tongues; and they shall come and shall see my glory, and I will set a sign
among them. And from them I will send survivors to the nations, to Tarshish, Put,
and Lud, who draw the bow, to Tubal and Javan, to the coastlands afar off, that
have not heard my fame or seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among
the nations. And they shall bring all your brethren from all the nations as an
offering to the Lord, upon horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and upon mules,
and upon dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says the Lord, just as the
Israelites bring their cereal offering in a clean vessel to the house of the Lord. And
some of them also I will take for priests and for Levites, says the Lord.

A Reading from the Acts of the Apostles 11: 19-26
Now those who were scattered because of the persecution that arose over Stephen
traveled as far as Phoenicia and Cyprus and Antioch, speaking the word to none
except Jews. But there were some of them, men of Cyprus and Cyrene, who on
coming to Antioch spoke to the Greeks also, preaching the Lord Jesus. And the
hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number that believed turned to the
Lord. News of this came to the ears of the church in Jerusalem, and they sent
Barnabas to Antioch. When he came and saw the grace of God, he was glad; and
he exhorted them all to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast purpose; for he
was a good man, full of the Holy Spirit and of faith. And a large company was
added to the Lord. So Barnabas went to Tarsus to look for Saul; and when he had
found him, he brought him to Antioch. For a whole year they met with the church,
and taught a large company of people; and in Antioch the disciples were for the
first time called Christians.

Celebrant: The Lord accompanies us as we go forth to proclaim the Good News
of salvation. On this World Mission Sunday, let us turn to our God for help to
strengthen our witness to all nations and peoples.

Your Son, the bearer of your great Mission, established your kingdom of love,
sharing, and fraternity on earth. He invites us to build it all together. May we
rediscover the importance of his invitation and may we answer it in a thousand

Celebrant: Lord, may your Mission become the central concern for our Church
community throughout the world. Bring us closer to our brothers and sisters, so

and you want our happiness through the construction of a better world, your
kingdom! We ask you this through Jesus, your greatest missionary with us, forever
