Vision Statement
The Board of Directors and staff of the Sherman County School District value children and education as their highest priorities
and uphold the motto, Working Together to Put Student Success First.

Mission Statement
Sherman County Schools, in partnership with its community citizens, will provide all students with an education which produces
responsible and informed citizens, able to adjust, grow, and make positive contributions to a rapidly changing world.

District Values
1. Public schools belong to people who create them, are only as strong as the support received from an informed public, and
support for education is based on knowledge and understanding of the schools.
2. Quality education is the result of motivated students, well-prepared staff members and supportive parents.
3. All students will be held to high expectations.
4. All students can be expected to succeed when offered appropriate opportunities.

District Priorities and Points of Emphasis


STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT/STAFF DEVELOPMENT
Support staff and administration with the implementation of instructional methods, curriculum modifications and staff
development activities that will advance the quality, rigor, and scope of the educational programs being provided by
the Sherman County School District. This includes supporting efforts to increase the level of student achievement for
our students in grades 3-8 and grade 11 on the SBAC by scoring at or above state averages in all graded categories in
ELA, Math and Science.
Support growth of Career Technical Education (CTE), Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM),
Technology Integration, College-Level Educational Opportunities, and Dropout Prevention.
SAFETY
Provide resources and creative programs to ensure a safe and orderly environment that meets current and future
needs of students, staff, and the community.
IMPLEMENTATION of OREGON RESPONSE TO INSTRUCTION & INTERVENTION and POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTION &
SUPPORT:
In partnership with District parents/guardians and staff, focus on and successfully implement ORTIi and PBIS to improve
academic and behavioral outcomes.
COMMUNICATION and TRANSPARENCY:
Increase accountability and transparency between the Sherman County School District Board and school staff,
administrators, families, residents, and community leaders by acknowledging current challenges and building on
strengths.
BOARD DEVELOPMENT:
The School Board will commit to working as a cohesive team by creating and adhering to Board and Superintendent
Working Agreement.
Use the Districts Vision, Mission and Value statements to guide decision making.
Commit to training and adhere to operating policies and principles.
STRATEGIC PLAN:
Revisit and continue to implement the plan (2012-17) with a vision on the development of a new Strategic Plan to carry
the District into the future.
