About Us Luis Esteva Maraboto
Mission Born in Mexico City in 1935. He studied Civil Engineering at the Universidad Nacional Autnoma de
Counselors Mxico (UNAM) [National Autonomous University of Mexico], and received a master's degree in Science
at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His Doctor of Engineering degree was obtained at the

UNAM. He has been a professor at the Facultad de Ingeniera [Faculty of Engineering] and the Instituto
de Ingeniera [Engineering Institute] of the UNAM of which he is Researcher Emeritus. He also is
Committees Investigador Nacional Emrito [National Researcher Emeritus of the Sistema Nacional de Investigadores
(SNI) [National Researcher System].
Multidisciplinary
Social Sciences, Philosophy and History Dr. Esteva Maraboto is outstanding for his work on the application of methods and policies to reduce
Physical and Chemical Sciences and seismic risk, especially for the construction of safer structures in face of earthquakes. His professional
Mathematics practice includes structural design and consulting on special projects. He has been instrumental in the
Natural Sciences development and formulation of various regulations and requirements for buildings in Mexico and other
Technology and Design countries.

He is a former president of the Sociedad Mexicana de Ingeniera Ssmica [Mexican Society for Earthquake Engineering] and of the
Asociacin Internacional de Ingeniera Ssmica [International Association for Earthquake Engineering (IAEE)]. Member of the Board

Third World Network of Scientific Organizations TWNSO Technology Prize. He also received the Premio UNAM de Technologa y
Diseo Industrial [UNAM Prize for Technology and Industrial Design]; the Medalla Benito Jurez [Benito Jurez Medal] of the
Sociedad Mexicana de Geografa y Estadstica [Mexican Association of Geography and Statistics], the Premio Nacional de Proteccin
Civil [Civil Protection National Prize] and the George W. Housner Prize, from the Earthquake Engineering Research Institute of the
United States.

He is the author of over 300 papers published in arbitrated journals and congress participations, technical reports and
dissemination articles, as well as several book chapters on structural design, reliability and earthquake engineering and risk.
