What model are you using? -Students will remain in the designated area when we go
outside. (Eyes & Shoulders)
-Students will cooperate and take turns with the jump rope.

-Students will be doing one of two things, jumping rope or
making observations. (Science voice)

Explore Students will be led outside to an area large enough for

them to spread out.
Jump ropes will be handed out, one to each pair of students
I will tell students that the tallest person in their pairs will
be jumping rope first.
I will explain to them that the first partner will have 2
minutes to jump rope while the other partner watches and
writes down their observations.

and observations.
When the timer goes off, students will be instructed to
switch positions.
The process will repeat.
When the timer goes off again, students will be directed to
get in line to head back to the classroom.
When we return to the classroom we will take a break for
drinks while we gather our writing materials and science
notebooks.
Students will be directed to sit in their science area when
they are ready.
Explain Once all students are ready and in their science area, I will
ask students to tell me about their observations.
Depending on time, I will call on a minimum of 4-5 students
to share an observation that they have written down.
We will go through a series of questions as a whole group.
-Do you think your bones move when you jump rope?
-Where are your bones? (inside your body)
-How can you tell that that is where your bones are?
(feel the hard parts inside)
-How many bones do you think you have in your body?
(Accept and write down 4 different answers)
Students will be encouraged to feel their bones through
their skin.
I will ask students: What do your bones feel like? (hard)
I will then prompt students: If bones are hard, how do our
bodies bend?
Students will be encouraged to feel their bodies where two
bones come together. I will explain to them that bones dont
actually bend, so places that bend on our bodies (arms, legs,
fingers, etc.) are places where separate bones come
together. This place is called a joint.
I will point out several joints in their bodies.
We will then go over our vocabulary words on the word
wall.

I will show students the first vocabulary word skeleton

and ask them what their definition is.
They will touch their brains and think before turning and
talking to a partner.
I will call on students to tell me what their partner said the
definition was.
Now I will give them the book definition of it.
This will repeat for all vocabulary words.
I will tell students that we are going to work in groups(pre-
determined)
Student groups will each be assigned to a subsystem of
bones.
Each group will be responsible for counting up all the bones
in that subsystem.
Elaborate Students will be released to their groups to begin applying
their knowledge of bones to count the number of bones in
the human body.
Students will be called back to the carpet and we will go
over their results. Each of the 2 groups will be asked to
come up and write their results on the chart on the board.
This continues until all groups answers are on the board.
I will now prompt the students by asking the following
questions:
-How will we know if we missed any bones when we
counted?
-What could we use to help us find out more about
bones?
I will now introduce the life sized poster of the human
skeleton.
I will hang it up were students can see it.
Now I will pass out the posters of the different subsystems
and students will be directed to re-count their subsystem of
bones.
They will record their bone count on their worksheets.
We will come back as a group and revise the total bone

We will now have the function questions projected onto the
board.
We will answer these questions as a group.
Evaluate Students will now be directed to answer the focus question on a
sticky note.
Students will place their sticky note on the anchor chart before
cleaning up their area and moving back to the carpet.
